Applied physics is rooted in the fundamental truths and basic concepts of the physical sciences but is concerned with the utilization of these scientific principles in practical devices and systems. This new and important book gathers the latest research from around the globe in this dynamic field.

I would like to thank Research Signpost for giving me the opportunity to edit this book. I am very grateful for the authors who have contributed papers in the book. Among them are the top scientists in their specific field and many of the papers have reflected the most impressive state of the art developments in the field. I would like to also thank my wife for her support on my work& The Applied Physics is a very broad field, with so many important progresses being made. It will be impossible to cover all of them in a single book. Several of the most important subjects have been chosen to be addressed in the book, which include fuel cells, solar cells, HTS coated conductors, advanced oxide and semiconductor materials, memory device, and nano and bio applications. There are totally 17 review chapters. I hope this will be an interesting book to read.

The papers included in this issue of ECS Transactions were originally presented in the symposium ¿Photovoltaics for the 21st Century 6 ¿, held during the 218th meeting of The Electrochemical Society, in Las Vegas, Nevada from October 10 to 15, 2010.
