Academic Paper from the year 2017 in the subject Veterinary medicine, language: English, abstract: Indigenous village chicken is the most prominent class of livestock in the country and constitutes about 60-80% of the total poultry population, their productivity is low because of poor nutrition and low genetic potential. The number of flock per household in most Ethiopian communities is small constituting on average of 7-10 mature chickens 20-24 adult hens, a male birds and a number of growers of varies ages. Such production system may result in slow growth and poor layers of small sized eggs. About 40-60% of the chicks hatched die during the first 8 weeks of age mainly due to disease and predators attack. About half of the eggs produced have to be hatched to replace chicken that have died and the brooding time of the laying hens is longer, with many brooding cycles required to compensate for its unsuccessful brooding. Pullets and cockerels reached sexual maturity at an average age of 6.4 months and 5.7 months, respectively. Even though the productivity of local chicken is very poor, they are very important to withstand certain harsh environmental conditions, and can perform better under poor management than cross and exotic breeds, they are also well known to possess desirable characters such as ideal mother, good sister, hatch their own eggs, excellent foragers, resistance to common poultry disease and special meat and egg quality.

Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 3.68, language: English, abstract: The major purpose of this study is to assess the status and challenges faced while implementing the balanced scorecard reform initiative in Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC). The Balanced Score Card (BSC) is one of the most popular public service reform initiatives in Ethiopia that tries to translate a company's strategic direction and objectives into actionable initiatives and measurements. The major findings of the study reveal that employees understanding on the vision and strategic objectives and employees positive perception regards to BSC initiative relevance is a good opportunity for ERC. Whereas, lack of committed management and employee, manpower skill gap and lack of training, ineffective communication with employees, lack of monitoring and evaluation system are the variables that are statistically significant and have influence on balanced scorecard reform implementation at the Corporation. Therefore, it is recommended that ERC should strength the commitment of management and employee by providing adequate and continuous refreshment training on the concept of Balanced Scorecard.

Seminar paper from the year 2018 in the subject Agrarian Studies, language: English, abstract: This review paper highlights on chicken production in Ethiopia with emphasis on meat production and the aim of delivering summarized information for the beneficiaries and reader. Poultry production is increasing globally due to an increased population number and an increased demand of poultry products. Poultry production plays a great role for the supply of egg and meat from rural and urban area as a source of small holder family income and poultry production is synonymous with chicken production under the present Ethiopian conditions. In Ethiopia, poultry production systems show a clear distinction between the traditional, low input system on the one hand and modern production system using relatively advanced technology on the other hand. Poultry production is very important by supplying nutritional need of humans, alleviating poverty, requiring small space and capital for investment; sources of family income and benefit to female and children and a lot of socio economic and cultural benefit and affected by different factors shortage an high cost of feed; disease and biosecurity and environmental constraints. Due to different constraints the meat production capacity of local or indigenous chicken is low; so it is difficult to supply the meat need humans by using indigenous breed because indigenous breeds are dual purpose with low production capacity and should be genetically upgraded by selecting superior birds and cross breeding with indigenous breeds to cope the low production capacity of indigenous breeds of chickens.

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject Business economics - Investment and Finance, grade: 2,3, Cologne University of Applied Sciences, course: International Management and Business Consulting, language: English, abstract: According to BIS ( Department for Business innovation and skills ), Value Added measures the amount of wealth created by a company and is of particular importance since it reflects the ability of companies to provide their customers with what they want and are prepared to pay for. As such, it provides a broader perspective on a company‟s economic contribution than operating profit. Mathematically, Value Added = Company Sales - Bought-in goods. Value added is regarded as one of the most important objective of a Firm or a company because it measures the amount of the wealth created by a company, from where we can analyze how a particular company is contributing to the economy of a certain country. Every year the "Value Added Scoreboard‟ measures the overall growth of a company and examines the efficiencies. The analysis will be in many different sectors, sometimes differentiated by a country or a region which we will talk in this paper later. The British Minister of State for Science and innovation Lord Paul Drayson mentioned in his ministerial foreword that innovation is essential to national competitiveness and to ensure that countries can respond to global challenges and opportunities. He also mentions the clear ambition of British government to make the UK the best place to do business. Chancellor of the Exchequer Mr. Alistair Darling mentioned his support to innovative businesses in the UK. Many people believe that the coming century will be an Asian century with Asia contributing one third of the global GDP. This is also a good reason to make the UK and Europe most welcoming place for businesses and especially innovative businesses. As Darling "There are many opportunities for the UK firms, we are helping them to meet that challenge t

Master's Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, grade: 1.0, , course: Development Economics, language: English, abstract: The study measures the level of technical efficiency and its determinants in Ethiopian garment factories. The study employs both Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) to compute the technical efficiency of Ethiopian garment factories and Tobit model to examine the determinant of technical inefficiency of the garment factories based on a data set of ninety four garment factories over the period of 2014-2015. The study used Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) to opt for the best function between Cobb-Douglas and Translog functions. The result reveals that Cobb-Douglas production functions better explains the production behavior of garment factories. The DEA estimation shows that the mean technical efficiency of garment factories was around to be 0.43 while such figure in SFA goes as high as 0.89 and the research indicated that export do not promote technical efficiency Ethiopian garment factories. The research indicated that DEA is more appropriate for small garment factors while SFA is more suitable to large and medium garment factories. The result from DEA model indicates that educational level of production manager, local fabric sourcing, collaboration with similar factories and membership status with Ethiopian textile and garment institute have positive contribution to efficiency. On the other hand wage rate of semi/unskilled labour, years of establishments, number of production line, educational level of the manager and size have a negative effect to efficiency. While the result from SFA indicates that wage rate of semi/unskilled, year of establishment, size and educational level of the manger have the positive contribution to technical efficiency. On the other hand owners citizenship and collaboration work with similar factories are a negative contribution to SFA technical efficiency. The research recommends that output can be increased by improving the technical efficiency of Ethiopian garment factories. To do so, for large and medium scale firms attention should be given to improve the wage rate of semi/unskilled labour, educational level of the managers and minimize collaboration with similar firms while educational level of the production manager, local fabric sourcing, collaboration with similar factories, and membership status of textile and garment institute should be improved for small firms.
