The major aim of this book is to demystify splenic pathology for nonspecialist consultants and trainees in histopathology. The interpretation of pathological changes in the human spleen provides a significant challenge to the skills of even the most highly trained histopathologists. This comprehensive account of the most important and frequently encountered pathological conditions affecting the spleen is highly illustrated in color throughout with numerous detailed macroscopic and microscopic specimens. Emphasis is placed on the importance of adequate clinical information and technical preparation of splenectomy specimens in obtaining the best possible histopathological assessment of the tissue. A systematic, analytical approach to interpretation of pathological changes is used throughout the book. This text should enable readers to feel confident in their assessment of significant processes within the spleen. This volume will serve as an illustrated atlas, bench manual, text, and reference source.

This pathology atlas on CD-ROM consists of 22 CD-ROMS, each dedicated to one organ system (see list of titles). Three CD-ROMs have already been prepared, the others are scheduled to appear within the next two years. Each CD-ROM is basically an image database depicting the known lesions of a given organ system, a short description of the lesion as well as the international classification of the lesion. Three types of classification are available upon entering the programme: ICD-10, SNOMED, or ADICAP. The programm is in English or French clickable. The authors are soliciting pathologists from countries all over the world to help promote the series.

The understanding of diagnostic lymph node and spleen pathology has evolved at an impressive pace since 1995, when the third series AFIP atlas was published. Progress has been fuelled, in large part, by the application of a number of technologies to the study of hematopoietic neoplasms. The World Health Organization (WHO) classification scheme for hematologic neoplasms has captured much of this progress, and is generally accepted for clinical practice. The current volume, part of the fourth series of atlases, integrates the WHO classification, including the 2016 revision, and highlights areas in which the WHO classification is likely to evolve with time. In keeping with the goals and tradition of the atlases, this volume emphasizes morphological features of hematopoietic neoplasms, and includes a discussion of differential diagnoses for each disease category. In addition, the results of immunophenotypic and molecular genetic testing for each disease are highlighted, including findings generated by using high-throughput techniques that likely will be integrated into standard diagnostics in the near future. Overall, this atlas will provide readers with the comprehensive information necessary for the pathological and clinical assessment of lymph node and splenic lesions.
