Beaufort Environmental Monitoring Project 1983 1984

The research and monitoring program recommended by this projectis structured around a set of hypothesized environmental impacts. For each of these nineteen hypotheses, the report diagrams anddetails the environmental linkages that need to be examined, describes how work should proceed and provides references on thetopic. The project draws conclusions as to the validity, testability and likelihood of each of the hypothesized effects.

Document is a product of a NOAA contract with Dames & Moore to: summarize the workshop proceedings; statistically analyze monitoring approaches suggested by the workshop to optimize the statistical sampling design applied; detail optimum approaches to Beaufort Sea monitoring that meet the prescribed goals for assessing the potential areawide or cumulative effects of anticipated oil and gas development.

Provides a framework for prevention education from kindergarten through 12th grade. Provides the basics for starting or expanding drug education. Includes information about drugs, background for teachers on child growth and development, sample lesson plans, and activities and suggestions on working with parents and the community. Format is expandable, so that school districts can add or input information. Illustrated.

Account of environmental monitoring activities in the lower Mackenzie Valley and Delta, Northwest Territories (MEMP) related to exploration and drilling for oil and gas.

This study examines the spatial distribution, relative abundance, and age segregation of bowhead whales in relation to petroleum industry activities and oceanographic features in the south-east Beaufort Sea during the 1985 open water season. Surface oceanographic conditions at the time of the aerial surveys (August-September) are described using satellite imagery analyses and in-situ temperature and wind data from industry vessels. Aerial photographic surveys provided information on the age/size class distribution and site tenacity of bowhead whales within the study area. Bowhead sightings recorded by other researchers working in that area during 1985 are also examined. Comparisons are made with results of previous bowhead whale surveys in the area.
