"This is a lovely and much needed book that provides an opportunity to open the conversation regarding bullying with our youngest children. In a 'question and brainstorm answers' format, Ms. Kempner's book will enable families to identify specific episodes of bullying that can occur in preschool and elementary school age children. Once identified, the readers are asked to think of alternative ways to handle the situations in which bullying can, but doesn't have to, occur." --Susan D. Boulware, M.D, Assistant Clinical Professor in Pediatrics, Yale Medical University Endorsed and supported by The Turner's Syndrome Society of the United States, TSSUS This anti-bullying book is designed to teach children to have empathy towards other children that may be perceived as "different." The books helps children realize how painful it is to be teased, isolated or bullied, which hopefully will inspire them to refrain from treating others in this way. From the author: We need to come together as parents, professionals and educators to increase the awareness of the "differences" in many of our children today. We need to teach our children tolerance and acceptance of their peers who are so-called "different." As diagnoses of Autism, ADHD and other syndromes and issues are on the rise, we have no choice but to use awareness and understanding to reinforce empathy in our children. Children that are "different" should not be made to feel like outcasts; they need to be understood, not shunned or ignored. The author: Jennifer Kempner, LCSWR is a mother of three children and a New York State licensed clinical therapist. She received her Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work, specializing in Child and Family Counseling, from Fordham University in New York. Cripping Girlhood offers a new theorization of disabled girlhood, tracing how and why representations of disabled girls emerge with frequency in twenty-first century U.S. media culture. It uncovers how the exceptional figure of the disabled girl most often appears as a resource to work through post-Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) anxieties about the family, healthcare, labor, citizenship, and the precarity of the bodymind. In paying critical attention to disabled girlhood, the book uses feminist disability studies to rupture the unwitting assumption in girls’ studies that girlhood is necessarily non-disabled. By closely examining the ways that disabled girls represent themselves, Anastasia Todd goes beyond a critique of the figure of the privileged, disabled girl subject in the national imagination to explore how disabled girls circulate their own capacious re-envisioning of what it means to be a disabled girl. In analyzing a range of cultural sites, including YouTube, TikTok, documentaries, and GoFundMe campaigns, Todd shows how disabled girls actively upend what we think we know about them and their experience, recasting the meanings ascribed to their bodyminds in their own terms. By analyzing disabled girls’ self-representational practices and cultural productions, Todd shows how disabled girls deftly theorize their experiences of ableism, sexism, racism, and ageism, and cultivate communities online, creating archives of disability knowledge and politicizing other disabled people in the process.

In higher education institutions across the world, rapid changes are occurring as the socio-economic composition of these universities is shifting. The participation of females, ethnic minority groups, and low-income students has increased exponentially, leading to major changes in student activities, curriculum, and overall campus culture. Significant research is a necessity for understanding the need of broader educational access and promoting a newly empowered diverse population of students in today’s universities. Accessibility and Diversity in the 21st Century University is a pivotal reference source that provides vital research on the provision of higher educational access to a more diverse population with a specific focus on the growing population of women in the university, key intersections with race and sexual preference, and the experiences of low-income students, mid-career and reentry students, and special needs populations. While highlighting topics such as adult learning, race-based achievement gaps, and women’s studies, this publication is ideally designed for educators, higher education faculty, deans, provosts, chancellors, policymakers, sociologists, anthropologists, researchers, scholars, and students seeking current research on modern advancements of diversity in higher education systems.
