Benchmarking Peer To Peer Systems

Peer-to-peer systems are now widely used and have become the focus of attention for many researchers over the past decade. A number of algorithms for decentralized search, content distribution, and media streaming have been developed. This book provides fundamental concepts for the benchmarking of those algorithms in peer-to-peer systems. It also contains a collection of characteristic benchmarking results. The chapters of the book have been organized in three topical sections on: Fundamentals of Benchmarking in P2P Systems; Synthetic Benchmarks for Peer-to-Peer Systems; and Application Benchmarks for Peer-to-Peer Systems. They are preceded by a detailed introduction to the subject.

In very short time, peer-to-peer computing has evolved from an attractive new paradigm into an exciting and vibrant research field bringing together researchers from systems, networking, and theory. This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer Systems, IPTPS 2003, held in Berkeley, CA, USA in February 2003. The 27 revised papers presented together with an introductory summary of the discussions at the workshop were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and revision from initially 166 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on experience with P2P; theory and algorithms, P2P in a broader perspective; incentive and fairness; new DHT designs; naming, indexing, and searching; file sharing; and networking and applications.

This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the 5th TPC Technology Conference, TPCTC 2013, held in Trento, Italy, in August 2013. It contains 7 selected peer-reviewed papers, a report from the TPC Public Relations Committee and one invited paper. The papers present novel ideas and methodologies in performance evaluation, measurement and characterization.

Following the success of the First MOBILIGHT 2009 in Athens, Greece, the Second International Conference on Mobile Lightweight Systems (MOBILIGHT) was held in Barcelona, Spain on May 10-12, 2010. It was not an easy decision to carry on organizing a scientific event on wireless communications, where competition is really enormous. This decision was motivated by discussion with many colleagues about the current unprecedented demand for lig- weight, wireless communication devices with high usability and performance able to support added-value services in a highly mobile environment. Such devices follow the users everywhere they go (at work, at home, while travelling, in a classroom, etc. ) and result in exciting research, development and business opportunities. Such scenarios clearly demand significant upgrades to the existing communication paradigm in terms of infrastructure, devices and services to support the “anytime, anywhere, any device” philosophy, providing novel and fast-evolving requirements and expectations on - search and development in the field of information and communication technologies. The core issue is to support wireless users' desire for 24/7 network availability and transparent access to "their own" services. In this context, we continue to envision an international forum where practitioners and researchers coming from the many areas involved in lightweight wireless systems’ design and deployment would be able to interact and exchange experiences.

This book constitutes the refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International Symposium on Benchmarking, Measuring, and Optimization, Bench 2020, held virtually in November 2020. The 12 revised full papers and 1 revised short paper presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 28 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections named: best paper session; data management and storage; supercomputing; benchmarking on GPU; and application and dataset.
