In modern organizations, traditional leadership concepts often fall short because they focus on the relationship between superiors and employees. The key differentiator for of these organizations, however, is the agility of the teams and the ability of their members to cooperate. An important part of current leadership research, which deals with multidimensional followership, also goes in this direction. In addition to the theoretical background, the book offers a very concrete guide in logical steps and with many examples of how this leadership concept can be applied in practice. It is literally a "Work Book".

This handbook integrates the best leadership and followership theories and practices between the Global North-West (countries of Western individualistic cultures in Europe, North America, Australia and Oceana) and the Global South-East (countries of Eastern collectivistic cultures in Asia, Africa, South America, and South-East Asian and Oceana). There is a need to bring the Global North-West and the Global South-East together to address global challenges such as the climate change, global hunger and poverty, domestic and international terrorism, social justice, gender inequality, and domestic and global abuse of human and natural resources. This innovative volume proposes that the democratic leadership of the Global North-West and the human-centered followership of the Global South-East can transform the world if leadership and followership values, education, and practices are integrated. It utilizes findings from positive psychology, social psychology, organizational behavior, and world religions and contemplative wisdom traditions to highlight the case for global leadership and followership.

Often it seems that people place a spotlight on leaders and disregard the probability that the success of the organization lies somewhere in the followers. However, literature on followership is often overlooked and research on it ignored. As organizations rapidly change, it is essential to understand organizational change through simultaneous discussions of both leaders and followers and the roles they play in the ultimate success of the company. Leadership and Followership in an Organizational Change Context is a pivotal reference source that establishes the concept and definitions of leadership and followership in the context of organizational change and discusses the leadership and followership styles that can contribute to organizational effectiveness. While highlighting topics such as leadership style, employee engagement, and succession planning, this book is ideally designed for managers, executives, directors, upper-level management, business professionals, academicians, researchers, industry professionals, and students seeking current research on the types of changes that organizations are facing and how such changes can be managed.

A Multidimensional Approach to Leadership Top-down, one-dimensional leadership models are hopelessly outmoded in today's rapidly changing world, and they waste the leadership ability that is present throughout an organization. In this visionary book, Karen and Henry Kimsey-House provide a model that harnesses the possibility of many rather than relying on the power of one. Their revolutionary five-dimensional approach recognizes that leadership has to be fluid and flexible and that the roles leaders and followers play must shift to suit the situation. Co-Active Leadership invites all of us to share our expertise and allows collaborative solutions to emerge that would never have been possible otherwise.

The industrial era organizations used dualistic leadership theory, which regarded followers as objects of leaders’ influence to socialize them into passive followership irrespective of context and outcome. Consequently, organizations focused on leadership and condemned active followership as a toxic behavior that sabotages organizational processes and outcomes. However, the emergence of relational leadership theory in the information era flattened organizational structure, which created a greater need for collaboration within and across sectors. In this new era, organizations cannot survive without responsible individuals who could be productive as both leaders and followers. As a result, organizations are experiencing high demand for active followership throughout organizational ranks, roles, and relationships. Nonetheless, since followership studies are still in their infancy, there is hardly any information on how followers develop and enact active followership. Whereas some studies established followership identity, role, and behaviors, and identified factors influencing their development, none has explored how they do so. This study offers a theory of followership development and enactment anchored in a seamless paradigm that can be used to expand leadership theory beyond dualistic tendencies that absolutized the differences among leadership variables despite their seamlessness. Therefore, it enhances organizational desire and capacity to develop and engage star followers effectively.

This book systematically elaborates Scott Eacott’s “relational” approach to organizational theory in education. Contributing to the relational trend in the social sciences, it first surveys relational scholarship across disciplines before providing a nuanced articulation of the relational research program and key concepts such as organizing activity, auctors, and spatio-temporal conditions. It also includes critical commentaries on the program from key figures such as Tony Bush, Megan Crawford, Fenwick English, Helen Gunter, Izhar Oplatka, Augusto Riveros, and Dawn Wallin. As such, the text models an approach to, or social epistemology for building knowledge claims in relation rather than through parallel monologues. Eacott’s relational approach provides a distinctive, post-Bourdieusian variant of the relational sociological project. Shifting the focus of inquiry from entities (e.g., leaders, organizations) to organizing activity and recognizing how auctors generate – simultaneously emerging from and constitutive of – spatio-temporal conditions unsettles the orthodoxy of organizational theory in educational administration and leadership. By presenting its claims in the context of other approaches, the book stimulates intellectual debate among both relational sociologists and opponents of relational approaches. Beyond Leadership provides significant insights into the organizing of education. As it does not fit neatly into any one field, but instead blends educational administration and leadership, organizational studies, and relational sociology, among others, it charts new territory and promotes important dialogue and debate.
