Professor Hasret Comak and colleagues put together a sizeable collection of studies on refugee situation in Turkey with reference to broader frameworks and discussions. Volume V and VI bring us detailed discussions of the international framework of refugee management as well as the circumstances and experiences of refugees in Turkey. 23 chapters focus on various aspects and offer insights and perspectives on refugee experiences, legal frameworks and implications with particular reference to Turkey. This title provides a much needed theoretical account of socio-cultural and identity issues surrounding middle-class Chinese migration in the changing context of migration policies and issues in Australia and other places. Migrating to a different country can be difficult, especially when attempting to start a business. Africans who migrate to the UK manage to negotiate and forge relationships among themselves and with the members of their host society. In doing so, they not only demonstrate tactics to form self-employment relationships, but they also unveil socio-cultural patterns and identity formation. The Evolution of Black African Entrepreneurship in the UK explains why people leave Africa, what they encounter, their interactions with the host community, their strategies of inclusion, and perceived exclusions from the mainstream of British society. This publication also provides information on the social changes and policies that African countries are adopting to negotiate the immigration and emigration processes of the diaspora communities. Illustrating multiple aspects of Black African entrepreneurship that serve as a vehicle not only for self-employment relationships but also for the unveiling of socio-cultural patterns and identity formation, this publication covers gender biases, forced vs. voluntary migration, and diaspora entrepreneurship. This year's report focuses on the lives of migrant women, who constitute almost half of all international migrants worldwide, some 95 million. Every year these women working overseas send hundreds of millions of dollars in remittances back to their homes and communities. These funds go to feed and educate children, provide health care, build homes, foster small businesses and generally improve living standards for loved ones left behind. For host countries, the labour of migrant women is so embedded in the fabric of society that it goes virtually unnoticed. But migration, whilst offering opportunities for economic advancement and relief from oppression and discrimination, has its darker side: enslavement of trafficking victims and the exploitation of domestic workers.

Immigration presents a fundamental challenge to the nation-state and is a key political priority for governments worldwide. However, knowledge of the politics of immigration remains largely limited to liberal states of the Global North. In this book, Katharina Natter draws on extensive fieldwork and archival research to compare immigration policymaking in authoritarian Morocco and democratizing Tunisia. Through this analysis, Natter advances theory-building on immigration beyond the liberal state and demonstrates how immigration politics – or how a state deals with 'the other' – can provide valuable insights into the inner workings of political regimes. Connecting scholarship from comparative politics, international relations and sociology across the Global North and Global South, Natter's highly original study challenges long-held assumptions and reveals the fascinating interplay between immigration, political regimes, and modern statehood around the world.

This open access book explores how contemporary integration policies and practices are not just about migrants and minority groups becoming part of society but often also reflect deliberate attempts to undermine their inclusion or participation. This affects individual lives as well as social cohesion. The book highlights the variety of ways in which integration and disintegration are related to, and often depend on each other. By analysing how (dis)integration works within a wide range of legal and institutional settings, this book contributes to the literature on integration by considering (dis)integration as a highly stratified process. Through featuring a fertile combination of comparative policy analyses and ethnographic research based on original material from six European and two non-European countries, this book will be a great resource for students, academics and policy makers in migration and integration studies. The contributions in this volume consider the question of migrant agency, how Western societies are both transforming migrants, and being transformed by them. It is informed by debates on the new 'transnational mobility', the immigration of Muslims, the increasing importance of human rights law, and the critical attention paid to women migrants.

Offers a critique of the economic model of immigration Most understandings of migration to the US focus on two primary factors. Either there was trouble in the home country, such as political unrest or famine, that pushed people out, or there was a general yearning for “a better life” or “more opportunity,” often conceptualized as the American Dream. Although many contemporary migrants in the United States have been driven by economic interests, the processes of immigration and integration are shaped also by the intersection of a range of noneconomic factors in both sending and receiving countries. The contributors to Beyond Economic Migration offer a nuanced look at a range of issues affecting motives to migrate and outcomes of integration, including US immigration policy and the visa system, labor market incorporation, employment precarity, identity and belonging, and transnationalism relating to female migrants, student migrants, and temporary foreign workers. Beyond Economic Migration argues that, for the dream of fair and equitable migration to be realized, analyses of cross-border movements, resettlement, and integration must pay attention to how migrants’ individual attributes interact with institutional mechanisms and social processes.
