Bio Inspired Models For Natural And Formal Languages

This volume is a collection of papers written by several researchers that have in common the use of bio-inspired models to approach formal and natural languages. The main goal of the volume is to promote interdisciplinarity among linguistics, biology and computation. The area of convergence between these three disciplines is giving rise to the emergence of new scientific paradigms that will have an epistemological, social and cultural impact. The book is organized around three thematic areas. Every area relates two of the three main topics: language, computation and biology. This volume stands out from existing publications because of its interdisciplinary nature. There has been a long tradition of interchanging methods among the aforementioned three disciplines, but it is difficult to find a single volume where this interchange of methods is shown. The volume includes chapters that clearly illustrate these interdisciplinary approaches and their benefits. This book will be of value to specialists who work in linguistics, biology or computation, and have interest in using methods from other disciplines that can provide new ideas, new tools and new formalisms to approach their problems, and that can help in the improvement of their theories and models.

This volume presents the set of final accepted papers for the tenth edition of the IWANN conference “International Work-Conference on Artificial neural Networks” held in Salamanca (Spain) during June 10–12, 2009. This two-volume set LNCS 6691 and 6692 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Work-Conference on Artificial Neural Networks, IWANN 2011, held in Torremolinos-Málaga, Spain, in June 2011. The 154 revised papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 202 submissions for presentation in two volumes. The first volume includes 69 papers organized in topical sections on mathematical and theoretical methods in computational intelligence; learning and adaptation; bio-inspired systems and neuro-engineering; hybrid intelligent systems; applications of computational intelligence; new applications of brain-computer interfaces; optimization algorithms in graphic processing units; computing languages with bio-inspired devices and multi-agent systems; computational intelligence in multimedia processing; and biologically plausible spiking neural processing.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 18th Conference on Computability in Europe, CiE 2022, in Swansea, UK, in July 2022. The 19 full papers together with 7 invited papers presented in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 41 submissions. The motto of CiE 2022 was “Revolutions and revelations in computability”. This alludes to the revolutionary developments we have seen in computability theory, starting with Turing's and Gödel's discoveries of the uncomputable and the unprovable and continuing to the present day with the advent of new computational paradigms such as quantum computing and bio-computing, which have dramatically changed our view of computability and revealed new insights into the multifarious nature of computation.

The Constraint Solving and Language Processing (CSLP) workshop considers the role of constraints in the representation of language and the implementation of language processing applications. This theme should be interpreted inclusively: it includes contributions from linguistics, computer science, psycholinguistics and related areas, with a particular interest in interdisciplinary perspectives. Constraints are widely used in linguistics, computer science, and psychology. How they are used, however, varies widely according to the research domain: knowledge representation, cognitive modelling, problem solving mechanisms, etc. These different perspectives are complementary, each one adding a piece to the puzzle.

This book builds on decades of research and provides contemporary theoretical foundations for practical applications to intelligent technologies and advances in artificial intelligence (AI). Reflecting the growing realization that computational models of human reasoning and interactions can be improved by integrating heterogeneous information resources and AI techniques, its ultimate goal is to promote integrated computational approaches to intelligent computerized systems. The book covers a range of interrelated topics, in particular, computational reasoning, language, syntax, semantics, memory, and context information. The respective chapters use and develop logically oriented methods and techniques, and the topics selected are from those areas of logic that contribute to AI and provide its mathematical foundations. The intended readership includes researchers working in the areas of traditional logical foundations, and on new approaches to intelligent computational systems.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Flexible Query Answering Systems, FQAS 2013, held in Granada, Spain, in September 2013. The 59 full papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. The papers are organized in a general session train and a parallel special session track. The general session train covers the following topics: querying-answering systems; semantic technology; patterns and classification; personalization and recommender systems; searching and ranking; and Web and human-computer interaction. The special track covers some specific and, typically, newer fields, namely: environmental scanning for strategic early warning; generating linguistic descriptions of data; advances in fuzzy querying and fuzzy databases: theory and applications; fusion and ensemble techniques for online learning on data streams; and intelligent information extraction from texts.

PAAMS, the International Conference on Practical Applications of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems is an international yearly forum to present, to discuss, and to disseminate the latest developments and the most important outcomes related to real-world applications. It provides a unique opportunity to bring multi-disciplinary experts, academics and practitioners together to exchange their ex-perience in the development of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. This volume presents the papers that have been accepted for the 2010 edition in the Special Sessions and Workshops. PAAMS'10 Special Sessions and Workshops are a very useful tool in order to complement the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest to the participating community. Special Sessions and Workshops that emphasize on multi-disciplinary and transversal aspects, as well as cutting-edge topics were especially encouraged and welcomed.
