Bribery And Corruption Law In Hong Kong

Corruption ran rampant in Hong Kong until the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in 1974, the world's largest anti-corruption body. Armed with draconian powers, the Commission quickly scored notable successes in combatting corruption. This book examines the history and nature of corruption in the Colony both before and after the ICAC was established-the cases celebres of the past and their bizarre cast of characters, the riots and the retaliations. Lethbridge also analyzes the impact of the ICAC on the public and private sectors in Hong Kong.

The Bribery Act 2010 is the most significant reform of UK bribery law in a century. This critical analysis offers an explanation of the Act, makes comparisons with similar legislation in other jurisdictions and provides a critical commentary, from both a UK and a US perspective, on the collapse of the distinction between public and private sector bribery. Drawing on their academic and practical experience, the contributors also analyse the prospects for enforcement and the difficulties facing lawyers seeking asset recovery following the laundering of the proceeds of bribery.
