This pictorial instructional pocket guide, derived from Cardiovascular MRI Tutorial, is a quick reference for MRI technologists, technologist trainees, and radiology or cardiology residents or fellows. Routine cardiac imaging protocols are presented in step-by-step fashion for immediate reference during an MRI examination. Each chapter displays a specific protocol from start to finish, including positioning, anatomy, and sequence terminology, with easy-to-follow illustrative images. Coverage includes protocols for cardiac function; cardiac function/viability; cardiac function/non-ischemic viability; arch; arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia/cardiomyopathy (ARVD/C); pulmonary vein electrophysiology (EP) ablation; constrictive pericarditis; atrial or ventricular septal defect (ASD or VSD); anomalous coronaries; and cardiac thalassemia.

Now it’s easier than ever to understand and interpret basic dysrhythmias! Barbara J. Aehlert’s ECGs Made Easy, 5th Edition uses a clear, conversational approach and plenty of practice exercises to help you learn ECG recognition. Add the practice rhythm strips in the book with those on the Evolve companion website, and you have more than 500 practice strips for ECG interpretation. Each ECG rhythm includes a sample rhythm strip and a discussion of possible patient symptoms and general treatment guidelines. Also included are ECG Pearls with insights based on real-world experience, Drug Pearls highlighting medications used to treat dysrhythmias, and a handy plastic heart rate calculator ruler for fast interpretation of rhythms. Clear ECG discussions highlight what you need to know about ECG mechanisms, rhythms, and heart blocks, such as: How Do I Recognize It? What Causes It? What Do I Do About It? ECG Pearl boxes offer useful hints for interpreting ECGs, such as the importance of the escape pacemaker. Drug Pearl boxes highlight various medications used to treat dysrhythmias. Introduction to the 12-Lead ECG chapter provides all the basics for this advanced skill, including determining electrical axis, ECG changes associated with myocardial ischemia and infarction, bundle branch block, and other conditions. A comprehensive post-test at the end of the book measures your understanding. A heart rate calculator ruler is included with each textbook, so you can measure heart rates while practicing ECG recognition. Chapter objectives and key terms focus your attention on the most important information. Updated content includes 25 new photos and drawings, for a total of almost 500 illustrations — all in full color. NEW! 10 practice rhythm strips and 65 replacement rhythms are added to the Stop and Review chapter quizzes for a total of 215 practice strips in the book. NEW Animation boxes indicate when you can view animations of key material on the Evolve companion website. NEW! 20 replacement rhythm strips are added to the Evolve site for a total of 100 practice strips online — together with the book, there are now 315 workable practice strips available.

It aims to explain the echo techniques available, outlines what they are most suitable for, and most importantly puts echo into a clinical perspective. This book will be of value to all those who use or request echo, particularly doctors in training and medical students, but also physicians, surgeons, general practitioners, technicians, nurses and paramedics. This Third Edition takes full account of recent advances in echocardiography. A new chapter on performing and reporting an echo has been added. New text has been added on the role of echo in individuals with cancer and in diseases of the aorta. There are updated and expanded sections on pregnancy, the continuity equation, diastolic function, long-axis function and 3-D echo. There are also updates and more detailed sections on the use of echo in emergency situations, in cardiomyopathies and pericardial diseases, in congenital abnormalities and in cardiac resynchronization therapy. Up-to-date published international guidelines have been referenced throughout. New online content is available in the form of echo video images with accompanying self-assessment questions which will allow the reader to carry out self-assessment of knowledge and to see examples of the echos described in the text. This highly-praised book is a simple guide to a difficult subject, written in a conversational and accessible style. It is essential reading for anyone wishing to learn about echo – doctors in training, cardiac technicians, medical students etc. It provides full practical coverage of the clinical aspects of heart disease It will be of great use to those experienced in echo both as a refresher and an accessible reference source

Cardiovascular MR imaging has become a robust, clinically useful mod- ity, and the rapid pace of innovation and important information it conveys have attracted many students whose goal is to become adept practitioners. In turn, many excellent textbooks have been written to aid this process. These books are necessary and useful in helping the student learn the underlying pulse sequences used in CMR, as well as the imaging findings in a variety of disorders. However, one of the difficulties inherent in learning CMR from a book is that the printed format is not the ideal medium to d- play the dynamic imaging that comprises a typical CMR case. For instance, it may be difficult to perceive focal areas of wall motion abnormality on serial static pictures, but these abnormalities are often easily seen on cine loops. One might say that trying to learn CMR solely from a standard textbook with illustrations is like trying to learn to drive by looking at snapshots obtained through the windshield of a moving car. The learner needs to see the cardiac motion and decide if it is normal or abnormal; he or she needs to be in the driver’s seat. An additional limitation of the ava- able textbooks on CMR is that while they often have superb illustrations of abnormal findings, these images have been preselected.
