Excerpt from Catalogue of the Illinois State Library, 1894 The library contains thirty thousand volumes, besides ten or twelve thousand duplicates of State and national publications. The arrangement of this catalogue is that in general use the dictionary system. Each book is entered under its author, title and subject, and the whole arranged in one alphabetical series. The exceptions to this system are all anonymous books and those having arbitrary titles which do not admit of being placed under subjects.
