On July 23, 1999, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, the most powerful X-ray telescope ever built, was launched aboard the space shuttle Columbia. Since then, Chandra has given us a view of the universe that is largely hidden from telescopes sensitive only to visible light. In Chandra's Cosmos, the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory's Chandra science spokesperson Wallace H. Tucker uses a series of short, connected stories to describe the telescope's exploration of the hot, high-energy face of the universe. The book is organized in three parts: "The Big," covering the cosmic web, dark energy, dark matter, and massive clusters of galaxies; "The Bad," exploring neutron stars, stellar black holes, and supermassive black holes; and "The Beautiful," discussing stars, exoplanets, and life. Chandra has imaged the spectacular, glowing remains of exploded stars and taken spectra showing the dispersal of their elements. Chandra has observed the region around the supermassive black hole in the center of our Milky Way and traced the separation of dark matter from normal matter in the collision of galaxies, contributing to both dark matter and dark energy studies. Tucker explores the implications of these observations in an entertaining, informative narrative aimed at space buffs and general readers alike.

In an alternate universe, Earth was invaded by a race of aliens from a planet called Nykarus and the end result was a war that lasted for five years, until a distress signal that was sent out two years after the war started was intercepted by an old enemy of the Ny’Karin race. The Kygourins fought side by side with humans to defeat the invaders, sending them back to the Pledius star system. However, many humans were stored in cryo-chambers on board the motherships. Adara takes her to the city Mu and Chandra undergoes a transformation, enabling her to serve as a prostitute for Adara. Several years later Soran, Emperor of Nykarus, has found Chandra and pays Adara Sunn a visit. He demands that Adara hands her over to him. She reluctantly agrees however, a clandestine meeting with a bounty hunter named Xenos, has swayed her decision and she sells Chandra to him. Xenos and Chandra leave Southern Atlan. Chandra’s Life at the brothel ends but her quest to find the truth about herself, begins.Her journey will take her to lands she has never seen before and dangers she must face along the way. Chandra is an eight year old girl, determined to enter a country ski race in the Iditarod's Festival. They both stay for a few months, but Xenos knows he must return to the planet Barunda with Chandra. Dukar, Xenos' trusted friend, offers a solution; they concoct a plan to leave Eurleau, undetected by the Ny'Karins. Their plan fails but by a twist of fate, Chandra's own plan succeeds. She escapes and stows away on a ship heading to Aurora, there she is thrown into another brothel. Shortly after, an enigmatic bounty hunter emerges into the scene. She storms the brothel and takes Chandra. After spending time with Makea, Chandra manages to escape from the bounty hunter and makes her way to Carlos, a merchant's slave who she met before she was sold to Xenos. Together, along with her best friend Keeja, they travel to Lyvia, where they meet Treau a changeling. He helps them get to Avolea, a mysterious forest deep within the continent Lyvia. It is there where Chandra's fate takes a turn. At the sanctuary, she discovers the truth of who she is, her connection to Soran, and the foreboding fate that awaits her.
