Other People’s Country thinks through the entangled objects of law – legislation, policies, institutions, treaties and so on – that ‘govern’ waters and that make bodies of water ‘lawful’ within settler colonial sites today. Informed by the theoretical interventions of cosmopolitics and political ecology, each opening up new approaches to questions of politics and ‘the political’, the chapters in this book locate these insights within material settler colonial ‘places’ rather than abstract structures of domination. A claim to water – whether by Indigenous peoples or settlers – is not simply a claim to a resource. It is a claim to knowledge and to the constitution of place and therefore, in the terms of Isabelle Stengers, to the continued constitution of the past, present and future of real worlds. Including contributions from the fields of anthropology, cultural studies, cultural geography, critical legal studies, and settler colonial studies, this collection not only engages with issues of law, water and entitlement in different national contexts – including Australia, Aotearoa/New Zealand, New Caledonia and the USA – but also from diverse disciplinary and institutional contexts. This book was originally published as a special issue of Settler Colonial Studies.

This volume is comprised of contributions from leading scholars in education and psychology. In part one of the book the authors provide insight into the psychology of change, examining: What factors work as catalysts for change in environments, institutions and people What factors hinder change When change is deemed beneficial In the second part of this volume the authors turn their attention to the issue of peace education. They examine the types of problems that societies and scholars should identify and try to solve in hopes of building more peaceful environments. The final chapter is a biography honoring Professor Gavriel (Gabi) Salomon, a significant contributor to the vast literature on change. This book is appropriate reading for professors, students and academics who are dedicated to fostering change to benefit institutions, environments and people.

This book, Challenging Change: Literary and Linguistic Responses, is a collection of twenty-three articles which examine change – understood in the broadest sense – as the need of the modern man to redefine, revise, deconstruct and reconstruct previous theories, histories, moralities, social relationships, forms of language and language use. In these times of great change, when the only constant seems to be change itself, the authors of these essays respond to the challenge and approach the notion of change from the perspectives of literary studies and linguistics. The book opens with an introductory overview, followed by twenty-three articles divided into two sections. The authors of the articles come from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, the United States, Canada, Japan, and Norway.

This Selected Issues paper examines the economic integration between Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the Mainland of China. Hong Kong SAR’s economic links with the Mainland expanded rapidly in the 1980s and in the first part of the 1990s, with Hong Kong SAR becoming the most important trade and international fundraising center for the Mainland. Since Hong Kong SAR’s return to China’s sovereignty, integration between the two economies has deepened, notwithstanding the Asian crisis.

This Technical Note on Stress Testing the Banking Supervision was prepared in the context of the Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) for the People’s Republic of China–Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Bank liquidity tests focus on sudden, sizable withdrawals of funding and the sufficiency of existing assets to withstand those shocks under stressed conditions. The stress test results confirm a high degree of resilience of the sector. This reflects the strength of the banks at the starting position, which reduces their fundamental vulnerability to shocks. Banks in HKSAR hold very high levels of capital, are very profitable, and have a low level of asset impairments amid stable funding profiles. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority is encouraged to continue its integration of risk-based supervision in the development of stress test scenarios for macroprudential policy and surveillance. Banking supervisors routinely conduct stress tests and, from time to time, modify relevant assumptions in order to support thematic reviews of identified vulnerabilities against emerging risks.
