A comprehensive interpretive biography of Charles Thomson (1729-1824). influential Philadelphia merchant during the 1760s and secretary to the Continental Congress for all of its fifteen years. Thomson's political enemies were numerous, and his political ideals were influenced by his own quest for personal recognition and financial security.
