Chloe The Very Special Goat

Chloe is definitely a very special goat and author Rosanne Glover brings this wonderful creature into a humorous and touching children's book. Children and adults will love the adventures of Chloe as she moves inside after being cast aside as a runt on a snowy day. The beautiful illustrations by Jennifer Kessel Sites capture Chloe's personality perfectly. Glover also includes the History and Science of goats, and a glossary of terms to expand the story into a wonderful learning tool for everyone who wasn't lucky enough to have a goat grow up in their house!

This book is about listening to pets . . . . . . and talking to pets . . . . . . about how to help pets heal . . . . . . and about how they help us to heal. It’s about my Life Assignment . . . . . . and possibly about yours. It’s about the Universal Truths of Spirit, Life, and Love. Whether a person believes in God, a Supreme Being, or the Big Bang, there is always a philosophical expression we live by. Regardless of your philosophy, religious faith, or creed, each of you should bring to this book your own favorite words to express these Universal Truths that help convey your idea of God. As I wrote these chapters, I used expressions for God, Spirit, Life, and Love with which I’m most familiar, those that touch my heart. My hope is that the expressions I’ve used will touch your heart, also, or that you’ll be able to freely adjust them in your own mind to those that are your chosen favorites. Regardless of the specific terms I may have used in order to keep the presentation simple, my desire is that each of you will find your own sense of spirituality in this book. It matters little to our animal friends what our religious or philosophical preferences are. Their only purpose in life is to give us Unconditional Love and teach us how to Love Unconditionally. Love is their religion, their philosophy. And through the deep Love you and your pet share, I know you’ll be able to joyfully speak to each other’s hearts! On a very practical note, for ease of expression, there are a few places in this book where I may have opted not to follow one of the regular rules of grammar. I may have mixed a singular noun with plural pronouns, or vice versa, knowing full well that I’m taking the liberty of not matching singular with singular or plural with plural. I do so with apologies to editors, teachers, and anyone who loves exactness of expression. This is a translation of one of the earliest known Greek romantic fiction novels. Daphnis and Chloe were brother and sister, who were separated at birth and then discovered individually each knowing nothing of the other. Unfortunately the Greek god Eros made them fall in love when they eventually met.

The Love of Daphnis and Chloe (2nd century C.E.) is an ancient Greek romance novel by Longus. Set on Lesbos, it is a classic story of love set in a recognizably pastoral setting. An important early novel and a landmark in the development of Western literature, The Love of Daphnis and Chloe has inspired and influenced such wide-ranging artists as Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Allan Ramsay, Marc Chagall, Colette, and Yukio Mishima. Abandoned at birth, Daphnis is raised by a goatherd named Lamon on the island of Lesbos. Chloe, likewise abandoned, is raised by Dryas, a nearby shepherd. Living and working in the fields of their native land, the two become fast friends, frequently spending time together while herding their respective flocks. As they fall in love, with no model for romantic affection, Daphnis and Chloe struggle to understand their mutual feeling. Seeking the guidance of a wise cowherd, they are advised to share a kiss with one another, for only a kiss will cure their growing sickness. All too trusting, they follow the cowherd’s instruction, only to be plunged into deeper desire. Still unsure of how to show his affection, Daphnis journeys to the city, where an older woman educates him in the ways of love. Meanwhile, Chloe is kidnapped and taken to a faraway kingdom. Fearing the worst, Daphnis embarks on a journey to save her, facing pirates, pitfalls, and countless other dangers on his way. The Love of Daphnis and Chloe is not only a groundbreaking work of prose fiction, but a widely adapted model of classical romance that continues to be read and appreciated nearly two millennia after its publication. Prose fiction, although not always associated with classical antiquity, flourished in the early Roman Empire, not only in realistic Latin novels but also and indeed principally in the Greek ideal romance of love and adventure. Enormously popular in the Renaissance, these stories have been less familiar in later centuries. Translations of the Greek stories were not readily available in English before B.P.
