Complexes Of Differential Operators

This book gives a systematic account of the facts concerning complexes of differential operators on differentiable manifolds. The central place is occupied by the study of general complexes of differential operators between sections of vector bundles. Although the global situation often contains nothing new as compared with the local one (that is, complexes of partial differential operators on an open subset of ]Rn), the invariant language allows one to simplify the notation and to distinguish better the algebraic nature of some questions. In the last 2 decades within the general theory of complexes of differential operators, the following directions were delineated: 1) the formal theory; 2) the existence theory; 3) the problem of global solvability; 4) overdetermined boundary problems; 5) the generalized Lefschetz theory of fixed points, and 6) the qualitative theory of solutions of overdetermined systems. All of these problems are reflected in this book to some degree. It is superfluous to say that different directions sometimes whimsically intersect. Considerable attention is given to connections and parallels with the theory of functions of several complex variables. One of the reproaches avowed beforehand by the author consists of the shortage of examples. The framework of the book has not permitted their number to be increased significantly. Certain parts of the book consist of results obtained by the author in 1977-1986. They have been presented in seminars in Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Ekaterinburg, and N ovosi birsk.

Consists of the expository paper based on the 6-hour minicourse given by Professor Bert-Wolfgang Schulze, and sixteen papers based on lectures given at the workshop and on invitations.

This volume consists of eighteen peer-reviewed papers related to lectures on pseudo-differential operators presented at the meeting of the ISAAC Group in Pseudo-Differential Operators (IGPDO) held at Imperial College London on July 13-18, 2009. Featured in this volume are the analysis, applications and computations of pseudo-differential operators in mathematics, physics and signal analysis. This volume is a useful complement to the volumes “Advances in Pseudo-Differential Operators”, “Pseudo-Differential Operators and Related Topics”, “Modern Trends in Pseudo-Differential Operators”, “New Developments in Pseudo-Differential Operators” and “Pseudo-Differential Operators: Complex Analysis and Partial Differential Equations” published in the same series in, respectively, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

The precise mathematical investigation of various natural phenomena is an old and difficult problem. This book is the first to deal systematically with the general non-selfadjoint problems in mechanics and physics. It deals mainly with bounded domains with smooth boundaries, but also considers elliptic boundary value problems in tube domains, i.e. in non-smooth domains. This volume will be of particular value to those working in differential equations, functional analysis, and equations of mathematical physics.

The aim of this third edition is to give an accessible and essentially self-contained account of pseudo-differential operators based on the previous edition. New chapters notwithstanding, the elementary and detailed style of earlier editions is maintained in order to appeal to the largest possible group of readers. The focus of this book is on the global theory of elliptic pseudo-differential operators on Lp(Rn). The main prerequisite for a complete understanding of the book is a basic course in functional analysis up to the level of compact operators. It is an ideal introduction for graduate students in mathematics and mathematicians who aspire to do research in pseudo-differential operators and related topics.
