The book offers new critical insights into the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable development in Africa. The extent to which CSR initiatives can contribute to sustainable development in Africa remains debatable. This book examines in a very clear structure how, when, and whether CSR initiatives are able to contribute to the realization of the sustainable development goals, peace, and environmental sustainability at the micro-levels of society. It also explores some macro-level issues such as the relationship between taxation and CSR, CSR and human rights, and CSR and public governance and, in so doing, challenges existing CSR dogmas. For this, the first section of the book is on the historical review of management development in Africa; section two deals with contemporary management issues while the third section is on the policy and institutional perspectives of management development in Africa. This book explores the issues around small business and entrepreneurial activities in Africa within the context of frequent collapse of businesses, seizures by governments, lack of access to capital and raw materials as well as the reliance on the informal sector. All these issues, the Editors argue, have been exacerbated by the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, entrepreneurship must be at the heart of efforts to transform Africa’s economic prospects to ensure sustained economic growth and decent work for all. In looking at the development of entrepreneurship for Africa’s growth, contributors to this edited collection take an evolutionary approach by focusing on entrepreneurial intentions (where entrepreneurial ideas are formed), customer management (which is central to all entrepreneurial business success) and by also focusing on local and entrepreneurial business development. The book then ends with a discussion around technological innovations in small business development in Africa. Covering topics such as social entrepreneurship, international joint ventures and the impact of digital platforms, this conceptual path provides rich contemporary insights for students, researchers, and policy makers and contributes to the achievement of SDG 8 targets.

The book has been compiled bearing in mind a variety of needs from business peoples that practice small scale business and the language and style of the book is consciously made simple so as to effectively cater for the multiplicity of interest groups highlighted. I must add here that the bulk of materials in this book had come in the main from a compilation of field surveys and Focus Group discussions, Interviews, questionnaire and literature reviews on the subject matters. The field of economics is wide and characterized by tortuous terrain. Although there are several texts and publications in economics, books which focus on the adaptation of economics principles to the entrepreneurship system are not very common. Traders, government, students of economics and business management therefore face the trauma of adapting principles of entrepneurship to economic systems. These gap which this present book along with its precursors attempt to bridge. In order to fulfill this objective, the structure of the book is design to present an expose of entrepreneurship principles and small scale business.
