This compendium contains all the reference texts and standard-setting instruments relating to cultural heritage elaborated by the Council of Europe. It starts with the European Cultural Convention of 1954 and presents conventions, resolutions and recommendations of the Committee of Ministers, relevant texts from European ministerial conferences, charters, codes of good practice and guidelines. The scope of the texts covers all aspects of European cultural heritage including the archaeological heritage, the architectural heritage, cultural property, landscape, urban space and the movable heritage. Drawing on the widest possible evidence, from tenant and government records to the built environment itself, she tells the story of British council housing, from its seeds in Victorian reactions to 'the Poor', in philanthropy and model villages, Christian and other varieties of socialism. State-driven investments in art and cultural production in the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are an important part of the search for longer-term alternatives to the longer-term unsustainability of the hydrocarbon-based economic development model. They also are an element in the search for soft power and status, and intersect with the nation-building project.
