The first purpose in offering to teachers an outline of the course of study in geography along with suggestions and directions for teaching, is to put before them a richer field of material, to enlarge their resources, and to remove limitations rather than place them upon teachers. No teacher can do successful work who is confined to the text book in hand. The process of education is a process of "continued reconstruction of an individual's experience", and the means - the materials in the hands of the teacher - are not to be found in text books, not even inside the school room.
