Creative Criticism

Too often academic critical writing seems to annihilate what it analyses. Too often it brings pre-packaged language to bear on works whose whole essence and aim is to change the ways in which we see and describe our world. How, then, to write criticism? This text gathers together who strive to find answers to this dilemma.

What kinds of critical insights are made possible only or especially via creative strategies? This volume examines how creative modes of writing might facilitate or inform new ways to critically engage with Shakespeare. Creative writing, demonstrated in a series of essays, reflections, stories and scenes, operates as a vehicle for exploring and articulating critical and theoretical ideas. Culture, Creativity and Environment: New Environmentalist Criticism is a collection of new work which examines the intersection between philosophy, literature, visual art, film and the environment at a time of environmental crisis.
