This volume is a collection of essays on the early creeds by John Nevin and Philip Schaff, the two principal representatives of the Mercersburg Theology that was birthed in nineteenth-century Pennsylvania. It also contains a critical response by John Proudfit, a more traditionally scholastic Calvinist. In these essays Nevin and Schaff argued that the early creeds provide an indispensable lens through which the Bible should be interpreted and an essential bond to preserve the unity of the church through the centuries. According to these Mercersburg theologians the liturgical and confessional use of the early creeds is crucial for shaping the identity of Christians and mediating the life of Christ to believers. Nevin and Schaff's enthusiasm for the creeds was a function of their understanding of Christianity as an evolving tradition, the Christian life as growth in Christ-likeness, the church as the nurturing body of Christ, and the sacraments as conduits of Christ's vivifying personhood. These convictions stood in sharp contrast to the a-creedal sensibilities of most nineteenth-century American Protestants who emphasized the sufficiency of Scripture alone, the church as a gathered community of like-minded individuals, dramatic conversion experiences, and the direct presence of Christ to the individual soul.

Carly Barnett's lifelong dream was to be a journalist-tracking down leads, interviewing important people, making a difference. A job offer at Portland's Oregonian Times seemed like an ideal place to start, until she learned exactly what she'd be doing. Writing an advice column for lonely hearts wasn't quite what she'd envisioned, but it was a beginning. Mark Holbrook did nothing to disguise his disdain for the new staff reporter-if you could call Carly's column "reporting." Still, he couldn't deny his attraction to her. But that didn't mean he'd take her advice-not even if she held the key to his own lonely heart. Look for more captivating titles from #1 New York Times bestselling author Linda Lael Miller! CREED Hades Kincaid is notorious in the underworld. He is the most feared man in Australia. The definition of a monster. The man makes Lucifer look merciful. Yet it is his daughter who calms the storm of chaos and madness within me. Love. Is it pure obsession? Is it a willingness to lose your life and to save theirs? I can't picture my life without her, so I plant myself as a friend in her life. She's beautiful, kind, soft-everything that the underworld destroys eventually. I kept my obsession for her contained. I remained within the rules of the brotherhood. But one night changed that, and the ripples of that one passionate moment changed her life and mine forever. Written by the author of Reaper's Claim and the Satan Sons Series (formerly known as Simone Elise) ⚠ This is book one of a trilogy and ends on a slight cliffhanger.
