Xu brings together Deleuze's philosophy and contemporary Chinese "pure literature" to form an assemblage of theory and practice through which both the obscured edges of a complex literary practice and the future-oriented concepts of a creative philosophy are sharpened with the potentials of their becoming-event brought to light.

Interest in the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze has grown exponentially over the last two decades, and, in recent years, Asian scholars have come to see rich possibilities for developing his thought within an Asian context. In this, the first collection devoted to Deleuze and Asia, several Asian and Western scholars explore Deleuzian themes and concepts in areas ranging from philosophy and religion to new media studies, cultural studies, theater, architecture, painting, film, and literature. These essays map new directions in East-West research that promise to invigorate Asian studies and disclose hitherto unrecognized dimensions of Deleuze’s thought.

This follow-up volume to our book The Age of the World Target collects interconnected entangled essays of literary and cultural theorist Rey Chow. The essays take up ideas of violence, capture, identification, temporality, sacrifice, and victimhood, engaging with theorists from Derrida and Deleuze to Agamben and Rancière.

Approaching this history from alternative theoretical perspectives, this volume pinpoints the phenomena binding languages, scripts, and medial expressions to cultural and national identity.
