En 1962 se publicó la primera edición del léxico de la construcción del Instituto Eduardo Torroja de la Construcción y del Cemento. Reunir las palabras relacionadas con una actividad tan antigua como la construcción, fue en su momento una empresa titánica y naturalmente inacabada. Los cambios en la forma de construir llevan de forma inevitable a la extinción por desuso de una buena parte del léxico, por lo que esta obra adquiere un considerable valor arqueológico que irá creciendo con el tiempo. En esta reedición se ha respetado el contenido de la edición original, solo unas mínimas modificaciones ortográficas y de orden alfabético. Se ha hecho una pequeña aportación de términos que en la edición original se destacaban con un asterisco porque su significado no aparecía en la decimoctava edición del diccionario de la Real Academia Española y que ahora si figuran en el diccionario de la RAE disponible en la red y consultado durante el mes de julio de 2009.
