Draft Land Use Framework

The goal of the Land-use Framework is to sustain Alberta's growing economy, but balance this with Albertans' social and environmental goals. This draft plan describes the desired planning process and outlines the six basic strategies to improve land-use decision-making in Alberta. The strategies include creating six land-use regions; establishing a cabinet committee with regional advisory councils; using "cumulative effects management" at the regional level; developing conservation and stewardship strategies; establishing an information, monitoring and knowledge system for planning and decision making; and including Aboriginal people in land-use planning.--Includes text from document.

The goal of the Land-use Framework is to sustain Alberta's growing economy in balance with social and environmental goals. It sets out an approach to manage public and private lands and natural resources to achieve Alberta's long-term economic, environmental and social goals and provides a blueprint for land-use management and decision-making that addresses Alberta's growth pressures. This document traces the development of the framework and presents its components, including governance, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
