This edition of Ecclesia: The Long Journey to Tomorrow by Justin Campbell and Deslee Campbelll is the full-colour edition of Volume 2 in their mini-series Synagogue and Church. It is a sequel to Volume 1, Synagoga's Heritage: Tabernacle, Temple, Synagogue and Church. Both books are also available in a smaller, black- and-white edition, at a lower cost. The authors trust that they will be valued assets for Ecclesia in the developing nations of the world. This easy-to-read volume is particularly designed for students and is ideal for college, seminary and high school students; as well as pastors. Although it is a sequel to Synagoga's Heritage: Tabernacle, Temple, Synagogue and Church there is some overlap in the 1st century AD (the period of Jesus and St Paul). Starting from the beginning of the Church means that this book can stand alone. It tells the story of the Church right through to the present day which makes it a useful asset in every Christian's library. Uniquely for a basic church history, it includes how Ecclesia has related to and interacted with the Jewish people over the centuries.

Recent theology offers few attempts to come to grips with the meaning and implications of the ascension of Jesus. Professor Farrow begins with a discussion of the biblical treatment of the ascension and Eucharistic celebration, from which emerges the unique ecclesial worldview. There are chapters on the treatment of these ideas by Irenaeus, Origen and Augustine, and on developments up to the Reformation. He explores the link between ideas of the ascension, cosmology and ecclesiology. Farrow goes on to examine the difficulties faced by the doctrine of ascension in the modern scientific world. In a final chapter he calls for an ecclesiology, which does not marginalise the human Jesus

The individual must hear the testimony today, but not as a tribute at death.
