In its third edition, Economic Literacy: Basic Economics with An Attitude, explains the logic, language, and worldview of economic theory while maintaining the engaging and accessible style that has made earlier editions so successful. While covering the fundamentals of the discipline, the author also includes a wide range of new material focusing on the structure, causes and results of the 'Great Recession'. From microeconomics and macroeconomics to the composition of international and domestic economies, Economic Literacy also makes the key distinction between economics as an academic discipline and the economy as a practical reality. By analyzing this crucial difference, the book encourages students to think critically about the distinctive viewpoint proposed by academic economics and its influence on politics and culture. Using this approach, readers will be enabled to understand both current affairs and professional economics literature, making this book uniquely beneficial for students both practically and theoretically. Never grim, often witty, and frequently insightful into our turbulent financial times, Economic Literacy's third edition is a must for students of economics everywhere.

The concept of money illusion, a recently resurrected phenomenon of behavioral economics, is a real fact of economic life, the potential role of which should no longer be dismissed. Despite money illusion being utterly suppressed by mainstream economists, small deviations from rationality, together with trends in behavioral economics, alleviate the denial of money illusion induced by the rational expectations revolution. This book argues that money illusion seems to be a ubiquitous phenomenon, affecting various areas such as financial markets, housing markets, labor markets, consumption-saving decisions, and even development at the aggregate level induced by coordination issues. Furthermore, in light of the educational efforts of central banks and other institutions, it is worth considering whether solid economic training would provide guidance for the public regarding their decision-making and thereby alleviate the effects of money illusion. The emerging field of experimental economics provides a unique opportunity for us to verify the presence of money illusion. Specifically, attention is devoted to the experimental investigation of reduction in the direct and indirect effects of money illusion with respect to the level of economic literacy acquired through economic education. Economic Literacy and Money Illusion will be of interest to the general audience and to those who are interested in behavioral economics, economics education, and experimental economics, as well as to policy makers and institutions. Last but not least, it will help develop students’ interest in alternative economic theories. NB. The research and writing of this book was made possible with the support of the University of Economics, Prague, Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics.

Redefining and Reclaiming Financial Literacy As a certified financial planner with thirty-five years of industry experience, Cindy Couyoumjian is committed to filling the financial literacy void for many Americans. In her timely and thought-provoking book, Cindy gives a unique macro perspective of what she calls “the hidden forces behind your money,” which are the unseen political and economic forces that may influence your investment decisions. Through meticulous research, Cindy shows how these hidden forces have contributed to a complex retirement system, which includes pensions, social security, and what she believes is the outdated 60/40 investment model. To address this issue, Cindy spent endless hours developing a new multi-asset class investment methodology, known as the REALM model, that may offer broader investment strategies aimed to mitigate risk from the hidden forces that may negatively impact your goals. Redefining Financial Literacy can help you • Understand the complex macro forces that you cannot control, yet could determine your financial future, • Take actionable steps to regain command of your retirement strategy, • Build a retirement with potential durable income strategies, lesser volatility, and risk-adjusted returns. Redefining Financial Literacy and Cindy’s innovative REALM model can open your eyes to investment possibilities while helping you regain confidence in the American dream. Diversification does not guarantee profit nor is it guaranteed to protect assets. There is no assurance that any strategy/model will achieve its objectives.
