This book is divided into three parts. The first part contains The Legends of Moses the Man and Moses the Magician, which brings to life who Moses really was. It includes the legends of him as a magician found both inside and outside of the Bible. Part Two is How the Sacred Writings of Moses were Lost, which explains how additional books of Moses, beyond the first five books of the Bible, can be accounted for and what is in them. Part Three is called The Book of Miscellaney, which reveals the magical applications of Moses' additional books. This section includes the 44 Secret Keys to Universal Power, various magical seals, and explains the modern influence of the Kabbalah, which traces it to a Mosaic origin. This final section also includes a chart of all the revelations made by Moses to various people in the Bible. The Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses is an 18th- or 19th-century magical text allegedly written by Moses, and passed down as hidden (or lost) books of the Jewish Tanakh. Self-described as ""the wonderful arts of the old Hebrews, taken from the Mosaic books of the cabala and the Talmud,"" it is actually a grimoire, or text of magical incantations and seals, that purports to instruct the reader in the spells used to create some of the miracles portrayed in the Bible as well as to grant other forms of good fortune and good health. The work contains reputed Talmudic magic names, words, and ideograms, some written in Hebrew and some with letters from the Latin alphabet. It contains ""Seals"" or magical drawings accompanied by instructions intended to help the user perform various tasks, from controlling weather or people to contacting the dead or Biblical religious figures. One man’s quest to find the oldest Bible scrolls in the world and uncover the story of the brilliant, doomed antiquarian accused of forging them. In the summer of 1883, Moses Wilhelm Shapira—archaeological treasure hunter and inveterate social climber—showed up unannounced in London claiming to have discovered the oldest copy of the Bible in the world.
