Elf Wars

Thousands of years in our past Light Elves fled to our world pursued by the Dark Elves. They stayed here until we began to use iron in large quantities. Keeping to the unwritten law that Elves do not harm Elves, they moved on, taking Neanderthal man with them.

This title describes how civil war is defined and categorized and presents data and descriptions for nearly 300 civil wars waged from 1816 to the present. Analyzing trends over time and regions, this work is the definitive source for understanding the phenomenon of civil war.

Ever since the end of World War II, and even more so since 1960, when 17 African colonies became independent of colonial rule, the African continent has been ravaged by a series of wars. These wars have ranged from liberation struggles against former colonial powers to power struggles between different factions in the aftermath of independence. They have ranged from border wars between newly independent states to civil wars between ethnic groups. As with many conflicts, outside forces were drawn into these wars, and major powers outside the continent intervened on one side or the other for a variety of reasons: political ideology, Cold War considerations, ethnic alignments, and stemming the flow of violence. Whether referring to Algeria's struggle for independence from French colonial rule, Nigeria's internal struggles to achieve a balanced state after the British departure, the Rwandan genocide of 1994, or the current ethnic cleansing in Darfur, The A to Z of Civil Wars in Africa covers all of the wars that have occurred in Africa since independence. After Santa is blamed for a terrorist attack, the world no longer wants his presents. The workshop is closed and the elves are laid off. Unemployment, crime, and drug use sky rocket. With nuclear stalemate holding the superpowers in check during the Cold War, violence proliferated in the Third World. Sometimes this took the form of colonial liberation wars as the old European empires disintegrated after the Second World War (Algeria 1954-1962 or Kenya 1952-1959); sometimes the violence was between Third World countries such as the Iran-Iraq War, and sometimes it involved the major powers directly: the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan. Certain regions – Central America, Southern Africa, the Horn of Africa or the Middle East – have been in more or less perpetual turmoil for thirty years and more. But whatever form the violence has taken –protracted guerrilla activity against the central government or short, sharp border war – the big powers have always been involved. They have provided arms to one or both sides, they have supported their ideological protégés and, more generally, have manipulated such wars to their own advantage. This book examines five broad categories of war: colonial liberation wars, big power intervention wars, wars between Third World countries, the special area of Israel and its neighbours, and civil wars.

Although few in number, elves produce the most skillful and deadly warriors of all the races. Renowned for their archery and agility, they are mostly associated with hit-and-run tactics; however, they should not be underestimated in open battle. From an initial examination of the fighting methods of the individual elf warrior, this lavishly illustrated volume goes on to reveal how they do battle in small companies and in vast armies. ELF WAR is a pair of linkable adventures for ElfQuest set in the cool valleys and beside the icy waters of the Hubward wilderness. The "Elf War" adventure is the shorter, playable in 1-2 sessions. "Beyond the Frozen Mountains" is a multi-session adventure, to be extended or condensed as the game master desires. Relevant character statistics accompany both parts.

Taking place in the First Era of Northwestern Aerbon between the years 1E75-151, The Northern Wars revolves around several wars spanning that time period. Following the passage of a royal decree in 1E78, King Louis Delaunay IV of the Kingdom of Legion declared a tax upon the hemp that passed through his lands. The people of Ahglor were a hardy folk who grew the stuff to smoke and trade with the elves of Aenor between hunting and farming in the northern reaches of their mountainous country. The King was a fiend for their weed and his men confiscated it at the borders— arresting any who carried the product of the North on their travels to exchange it with the eastern elves of Aenor for the absinthe of their woods. Meanwhile in Aenor, however, a mysterious threat plagued their land. The residents of their coastal towns were disappearing in the night whilst an expedition was being arranged by the Great Chief to explore the lands east across the water.
