We are delighted to introduce the proceedings of the 3rd English Language & Literature International Conference (ELLiC 3). This conference has brought researchers, developers and practitioners around the world who are leveraging and developing the English language education, literature, linguistics, and translation. We strongly believe that this conference provides a good forum for all researchers, developers and practitioners to discuss all scientific aspects that are relevant to Digital Society especially in the above fields. We also expect that the future conference will be as successful and stimulating, as indicated by the contributions presented in this volume

This book shows how modern political, economic and moral theory, including our ideas of liberty and individualism, are trapped in 17th century notions of intuitive reasoning and not informed by modern scientific understanding. Brian Ellis starts with a re-appraisal of the founding of the United Nations and the political and economic policies of the post-war reconstruction period. He then shows how this period, despite its many faults, embodied a philosophy more closely embedded in scientific realism than dominant theories of either left or right today. He goes on to develop this philosophy, meticulously, demolishing theories of Rawls, Nozick and others along the way. The result is a philosophy that investigates how a society actually works, supports evidence-based economics and can better enable human beings to flourish. It is a philosophy that can also accommodate the historical differences between societies and their different, but parallel, development strategies over time.

This substantially revised and updated edition of a widely used textbook covers the major approaches to counseling and psychotherapy from a Christian perspective, with hypothetical verbatim transcripts of interventions for each major approach and the latest empirical or research findings on their effectiveness. The second edition covers therapies and techniques that are increasing in use, reduces coverage of techniques that are waning in importance, and includes a discussion of lay counseling. The linguistics and language education world has recently experienced a rapidly proliferating interest in applying technology. This interdisciplinary area bridges the gap between two previously separate fields. Innovations and Applications of Technology in Language Education is a collection of 12 chapters by an international group of language and linguistics education experts. Although technology in language education is a global interest, its practices should be contextualized. This book covers how language educational technology is currently applied, discusses how it should be applied, and gives directions for its future development. Providing a critical review of respective current practices and perspectives, this book begins by presenting a set of research‐based principles for developing second language teachers’ professionalism. It then examines the use of technology to enhance students’ English language skills. Acknowledging the advantages and disadvantages of AI‐mediated communication, this book argues for the use of AI to facilitate communication in language education. It also proposes the use of AI to develop and administer language tests and suggests guidelines for practitioners to deploy AI in developing and administering language tests efficiently. This book concludes by discussing technology for specific purposes in second language education and the potential of computer‐mediated communication (CMC) to enhance interaction between students.

This book critically analyses the impact of digital media technologies on police scandal. Using an in-depth analysis of a viral bystander video of police excessive force filmed at the 2013 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade and uploaded to YouTube, the book addresses the ways social media video sousveillance can shape operational and institutional police responses to police misconduct. The volume features new research on the immediate and longer-term impacts of social media-generated police scandal on police legitimacy and accountability and responds to inherent questions of procedural justice. It interrogates the technological, political and legal frameworks that govern the relationships between the police and LGBTQI communities in Australia and beyond through the ‘social media test’ – the police narratives created and contested through social media, mainstream media, and police media. In doing so, it considers the role of sexual citizenship discourse as a political, economic and social organizing principle. A comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of ‘digital’ and ‘queer’ criminology, this is an essential read for those working at the intersection of criminology and the digital society, queer criminology, and critical criminology.
