European Industrial Relations Dictionary

Designed as an easy-to-use online reference tool, the European industrial relations dictionary is a comprehensive collection of the most commonly used terms in employment and industrial relations at EU level today. It contains almost 300 alphabetically listed entries, featuring concise definitions and relevant contextual information, with hyperlinks to EU legislation and case law. This booklet gives a broad overview and introduces the nine general themes of the dictionnary. It presents a concise outline of the legal and institutional framework of the EU system of employment and industrial relations, charting its evolution from the Treaty of Paris in 1951 right up to the current predicament regarding the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe. This glossary, one of the first of its kind, provides a comprehensive and accessible overview of the development and current status of labour law and industrial relations issues, including globalization and international labour standards. It provides cross-references between international labour standards, European Union Directives, resolutions and regulations. Definitions from the public domain are taken from legislative and specialized texts dealing with international standards and institutions in general. The glossary explores the most relevant issues surrounding the global debate on the social dimensions of globalization and includes entries on current achievements, debates, ideas and programmes, as highlighted in the 2004 Report of the Director-General on the World Commission on the Social Dimensions of Globalization, "A Fair Globalization:The role of the ILO".

Aims to provide explanations of specialist terms and the context in which they are used with regard to the introduction of the Single European Market and the move towards political and economic integration. This volume considers the implications for the UK's entry into a single European market.
