Women in Asia: Tradition, Modernity and Globalisation surveys the transformation in the status of women since 1970 in a diverse range of nations: Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, India, Taiwan, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan and Burma. Within these 13 national case studies the book presents new arguments about being women, being Asian and being modern in contemporary Asia. Recent social changes in women's place in society are untangled in recognition that not all change is 'progress' and that not all 'modernity' enhances women's status. The authors suggest that the improvements in women's status within the Asian region vary dramatically according to the manner in which women interact with the particular economic and ideological forces in each nation. Each contributor has focussed on a particular country in their area of expertise. They present innovative arguments relating to the problem of 'being women' in Asia during a period of dramatic social and political changes. Each national case study explores key social and economic markers of women's status such as employment rates, wage differentials, literacy rates and participation in politics or business. The effects of population control programs, legislation on domestic violence and female infanticide, and women's role in the family and the workforce are also discussed. The book poses questions as to how women have negotiated these shifts and in the process created a 'modern' Asian woman. Specialists from a variety of disciplines including history, anthropology, sociology, demography, gender studies and psychology grapple with the complexities and ambivalences presented by the multiple faces of the modern Asian woman. Complete with a list of recommended readings and a web-site with links to electronic resources, the book will be of particular interest to undergraduate students of Asian studies and women's studies as well as scholars and postgraduate students interested in comparative women's studies.

"In many societies across the world, women are discriminated against by law and by customs, rendering them among the vulnerable and disadvantaged social groups. While gender is at the centre, the issues discussed in this volume range from modernity to empowerment. The volume presents the women issues in their holistic perspective underlying and highlighting the dilemmas of women development. Besides, it also offers a competent critique of models of feminism the issues discussed in the book have become increasingly important over the years. The volume will benefit the social scientists, social activists, researchers and government functionaries alike."

Reading Feminist Theory: From Modernity to Postmodernity interweaves classical and contemporary writings from the social sciences and the humanities to represent feminist thought from the late eighteenth century to the present. Editors Susan Archer Mann and Ashly Suzanne Patterson pay close attention to the multiplicity and diversity of feminist voices, visions, and vantage points by race, class, gender, sexuality, and global location. Along with more conventional forms of theorizing, this anthology points to multiple sites of theory production--both inside and outside of the academy--and includes personal narratives, poems, short stories, zines, and even music lyrics. Offering a truly global perspective, the book devotes three chapters and more than thirty readings to the topics of colonialism, imperialism and globalization. It also provides extensive coverage of third-wave feminism, poststructuralism, queer theory, postcolonial theory, and transnational feminisms.

I consider myself a traditional feminist. However, through the course of several decades, feminism has slowly radicalised itself. Feminism used to be about equality between the sexes and treating people with dignity. However, now, feminism is full of dangerous, iniquitous, and harmful ideologies which irreparably and seriously harm the people of our society, both men and women. Some of these ideologies include glorifying promiscuity, wrecking the nuclear family unit, false victimhood narratives, modern gender theory, the steady societal and institutional feminisation of men, and so much more. In this book, we are going to debunk these ideologies, and you are going to learn about how evolutionary biology, masculinity, femininity, moral values, and ethics made our civilisation great, and how modern, radical feminism seeks to undermine these values, ethics, traditions, and norms, posing a great detriment to our society and harming everyone in the process.
