This book is about the outcome of a study that assessed factors that affect long-term marriages (10 or more years, spouses age 30-59 years) in the Maldives. Marriage is an evolving institution that contributes to diversifying the human race. In Islam marriage is a sacred bond that shapes a better society. Recent research on marriage observed that the rate of marriage is declining and the rate of divorce is increasing. For example, in the Maldives for every 2.3 marriages, one marriage ended in divorce. There is no study to date conducted in the Maldives about the factors that may be associated with retaining long-term marriages. Thus, this book aims to explore factors of long-term marriage which could be applied during marital therapy/counseling to aid in couple therapy intervention and future research. The book describes the association between long-term marital factors such as religiosity, spirituality, self-awareness, perception of a long-term marriage, and demographics. It was good to see another book from this talented author and I enjoyed reading The Golden Rules of Marriage. The book is a thought-provoking and knowledgeable read from start to finish. Written by a psychologist, the work explains why marriage counselling has not been effective and shows the reasons. The book focuses on profiting from differences, rather than trying to solve them and the crucial role that thoughts play in determining one's attitude. Using some ancient wisdom the work contains a five week program with practical strategies that a couple can complete at home. It explains what true love is and the difference with romantic love and shows how if a couple go by the Golden Rules then their problems can be solved. Written in an easy fluent style with excellent advice, it explains how our minds and thoughts govern our situations.
