Youngman, seed marketing specialist of the Foreign Agricultural Service, who has Just completed a study of the seed situation in that country. Burma lacks funds for international trad ing and permits importation of only a few items from.the United States. The Government is trying to stimulate domestic seed production for all kinds of crops. Grass and legume seeds are practically unknown in Burma. There is some intention of improving the communal pastures but the problems of regulating grazing and the lack of water during the dry season are major obstacles. Prices of Tanguis cottons continued steady through December, around the level established in November, and are seasonally the highest on record. Prices of Pima cotton which also averaged about the same as in November showed further strength toward the end of the month and, with the exception of December 1951, were the highest on record. Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 70: June 6, 1955 The wheat harvest now under way in Mexico is forecast at about 29.h million bushels, according to recent reports from the American Embassy, Mexico, D. F. This would be.the second largest wheat crop ever produced in that country, exceeded only by the 195a outturn of million bushels. The current crop was reduced by unfavorable conditions in some areas. Losses from freezes during the month of February were reported in southern Sonora. Further damage from low temperatures was reported in northern Coahuila. Those local losses, however, were largely offset by higher yields in northern Sonora and in the state of Sinaloa. (cont'd.
