For readers of Elizabeth Strout and Anne Tyler, a powerful, heartrending novel about a man on the run from himself, by Governor General's Award-winning author Kate Pullinger. On a rain-soaked Vancouver sidewalk in 1995, a homeless man fights for breath. Forest Green is the story of how he ended up there. Arthur Lunn is a golden boy who spends long summer days roaming the hills and swimming in the lakes of the Okanagan Valley. But the Great Depression is destroying lives, even in Art's remote and bucolic hometown. Soon, Art finds himself caught up in a battle between the town and the vagrants flowing through it, and before long the tension reaches a boiling point. A catastrophe follows--and changes everything. The trauma from this event shapes and haunts Art's life moving forward, from his experiences as a soldier in World War II to his reckless, nomadic working days in logging camps across British Columbia to his turbulent relationship with his one great love--a woman he cannot believe he deserves. Painful, poignant, yet full of hope, Forest Green explores how trauma can warp our lives while love can help us to mend.

A boy explores his urban forest, then interprets it through his art. With art supplies in tow, a young boy meanders through the forest near his home. A keen observer, the boy sees his forest as both “fluffy” and “prickly,” and as both “crispy” and “soft.” It’s also “scattered and soggy, and spotted and foggy.” His forest is made up of many colors — but he decides that “mostly it’s green.” Each aspect of the forest inspires a different kind of art: charcoal rubbing, rock art, photography, sponge painting, snow sculpture, cut-paper collage. With every new day in the forest, there’s a new way to capture it! Such a delightful nature companion is sure to awaken the artist in every child.

During the heatwave of July 2017, Ariel Gordon spent two days sitting on the patio of downtown Winnipegs Tallest Poppy, writing snippets of poems which she hung from the boulevard tree using paper and string. Passersby were invited to TreeTalk too their secrets / one-liners / meditations / haiku were also hung from the tree. By the end of the weekend, the elm had a second temporary canopy of leaves: 234 poems, 111 written by Gordon, 107 written by passersby, and 16 from other sources. Gordon has assembled all these voices into a long/found poem that asks: what does it mean to live in the urban forest? What does it mean to be in relationship with each other but also with the more-than-human? The book also includes pen and ink illustrations by Winnipeg artist Natalie Baird. Since 2017, Gordon has also hung poems in trees at the Sage Hill Poetry Experience in Muenster, SK, the Prairie Gate Literary Festival in Morris, MN, and at the Winnipeg Folk Festival as part of the Prairie Outdoor Exhibition. Stay tuned for more TreeTalk-ing!

Forest Green Rovers have risen through the ranks to reach the pinnacle of non-League football. Asfounder members of the Mid-Gloucestershire League in 1894 – the rst football league in Gloucestershire outside of Bristol– they have always been forward looking. Their rise has not always been smooth but the ambition of those involved with the club has seen them through and they are now the longest-serving members of the Conference National. This comprehensive history of Forest Green Rovers looks back at the highs and lows of their 125-year existence, right up to the start of the 2014/15 campaign. Taking in the glory of cup wins, promotion campaigns and the drama of several last-minute escapes from relegation– not to mention 1982's FA Vase win– it will delight Rovers fans of all ages and prove just why the Rovers have something to shout about.
