French For Communication 1979 1990

This book sets out the background to the communicative language teaching project pioneered in Leicestershire, bringing together LEAs, examination boards, advisers, teachers and researchers. The author contrasts the integrated language approach of the project with the discrete skills basis of the National Criteria and the GCSE.

This book examines the dynamic role that language plays as a unifying factor in maintaining and reinforcing national identity in Central and Eastern Europe in the post-communist period when new nation states were formed. It covers linguistic identity, linguistic exclusion or inclusion, languages in contact and languages in conflict.

Discussing story-telling in the French classroom, this text consists of 5 texts each for learners with 2/3, 4/5 and 6/7 years experience, respectively. A picture version accompanies the stories of level one. Levels one and two offer an unpunctuated version of the stories for language sequencing purposes. In addition, there is a range of activities for teaching the language and the process of storytelling for each level.

Distance learning was associated for many years with the endeavour of a correspondence course. Based on a symposium, this book presents current research and practice in the field.

Nwenmely (community studies, U. of Reading) first attended then taught London classes in Kweyol, an Afro-French creole. She draws on her experience and other sources to describe the origins and development of classes there and in the eastern Caribbean.
