In a time of transition, the Lord raises voices thjat can be heard with a different appreciation. And one of those voices is Pastor Torres, who with great clarity and with simple but profound language traces for us a spiritual route to be a Winner from God's perspective; our apparent failures don't matter, nor is there interest in the thermometers the world uses to measure success. The message is: think like Christ, walk with Christ and live in Christ. Pastor and Theologian Eduardo Fuentes In this book, my friend Pedro Torres delights us with the thought that in God's economy to lose is to win. What a great paradox! The world would like to win, but God indicates in the Bible that if we want to win, first we must lose. In other words, the true winner is the person who becomes a loser. I believe that every reader must read, memorize and share the concept of this book.

My first memory of Pedro Torres was when I heard him teaching about the book of Revelation in the adult class at Tabernacle of Life Church in Houston, TX. I remember that I was only about thirteen years old and was puzzled to hear so much biblical knowledge coming out of this human being. Two decades have passed since that first meeting, and I am still stunned to hear his teachings. For unknown reasons, I thought that the book would not have the same impact as hearing his ministry "in live"; but let me assure you that this book did not disappoint me. In this book, my friend, Pedro Torres, delights us with the thought that in God's strategic plan, losing is winning. What a great paradox! The world would like to win, but God indicates in his Word that if we want to win, we must lose first. In other words, the real winner is the person who becomes a "loser". I believe that every reader should memorize and share the concept of this book in order to deal with the problems of two specific groups: Christian youth and unsaved youth. The first group, Christian youth, tend to lose confidence and security in their lifestyle when they are called "losers" because of their Christian beliefs. This book will help you regain your confidence by reminding you that the opinion that counts is not the world's but God's. The second group, the unconverted, needs to hear this message of denial. The concept of God is one of extended gratification. Jesus said: "Because whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and everyone who loses his life for the sake of me, and the Gospel will save it". Finally, I ask God to help us better understand the concepts in this book so that we can confidently announce to our generation that we are "losers," but we are not lost. God bless you and enjoy the book. Loammi Diaz International Evangelist Houston Texas

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

My grandchildren and I were standing at the edge of a still lake feeding the ducks, when my granddaughter picked up a pebble and tossed it into the lake. The pebble quickly sank to the bottom of the lake, but the effect of the pebble created many ripples. They keep spreading and spreading from the center and there was no way to stop them. The Ripple Effect is based on the concept that we are connected. We can and do affect each other. The result is a building of community that will affect how we treat others and the way we live our lives. All of us have passion for something as well as a vision and hope to use our gifts and talents for a greater purpose. The Ripple Effect was originally written as a textbook for a character class curriculum using an athletic medium designed to change the culture of sport that provided collegiate student athletes with application model for character-driven athletics. Today, it has become a resource that provides a guide that can apply to anyone who has an interest in desiring to pursue competitive excellence that emulates Christ. We live in a culture today that promotes comfort, not challenges. We want instant gratification free from consequences of our choices. Our choices and actions represent who we are; what we believe and define our character. The ripple effect provides a foundation for a person to better understand who they can become. The most important relationship a person will ever have is with themselves. The question is, are we doing the best they can to become more than they have become. Each ripple has a message, which is the pebble, a theme, which is the ripple effect, and an application that provides the action necessary to develop and improve character. To reach significance in the athletic arena as well as life one needs to be able to embrace competition, establish quality relationships, and develop values, "rules of the road" that become the lifestyle. What happens when we experience the ripple effect? We become a person with a Christ-like perspective with a renewed purpose, a new sense of direction, and enhanced relationships.

Fighting sports may seem at odds with Christian tradition, yet modern ministries have embraced them as a means for evangelism and social outreach. While news media often sensationalize fighting sports, churches see them as a way to appeal to male congregants, presenting a peace-loving yet tough model of discipleship. From martial arts programs at suburban churches to urban boxing ministries geared towards at-risk youth, this book examines the substantial history of church sponsored training in combat sports, and presents arguments by Christian ethicists about their compatibility with church teachings and settings. Interviews with boxing and martial arts ministry leaders describe their programs and the relationship between fight sports and faith.
