Fundamental Physics Selected Topics On High Energy And Astroparticle Physics Proceedings Of The 25th International Winter Meeting

This book contains review talks on many current topics in high energy particle physics and astroparticle physics, such as the status of precision tests of the Standard Model, tau and B physics at LEP, precision tests of QCD at LEP, WW physics and searches at LEP-2, heavy quark physics at the Tevatron collider, QCD studies at HERA, very high energy gamma astronomy, physics prospects at the LHC, physics prospects at linear colliders, and others. It also contains short status reports on several approved or planned experiments, namely DIRAC, HERA-B, AMS and ANTARES.

This proceedings contains the talks delivered at the plenary and parallel sessions. Topics covered include e⁺e⁻ Physics at Z0, String Theory and Theory of Extended Objects, High Energy pp Physics, Non-Accelerator Particle Physics, Conformal Field Theory, e⁺e⁻ Physics below Z⁰, Structure Functions and Deep Inelastic Scattering, Neutrino Physics, Recent Developments in 2-Dimensional Gravity, Lattice Gauge Theory and Computer Simulations, CP Violation , Accelerator Physics, Cosmology and Particle Physics, Interface Between Particle and Condensed Matter Physics, Detector R&D, and Astroparticle Physics.

The purpose of this meeting was to cover selected topics of high current interest in the interplay between cosmology and fundamental physics. It brought together physicists, astrophysicists and astronomers and allowed easy and fruitful mutual contacts and communication among them. Topics covered this year include: phase transitions in cosmology and evolution out of the equilibrium of quantum fields, fundamental strings and cosmic strings in cosmology, dark matter and large scale structure, black holes and quantum gravity.

The Fourth International Workshop on New Worlds in Astroparticle Physics was the latest in the biennial series, held in Faro, Portugal. The program included both invited and contributed talks. Each of the sessions opened with a pedagogical overview of the current state of the respective field. The following topics were covered: cosmological parameters; neutrino physics and astrophysics; gravitational waves; beyond standard models: strings; cosmic rays: origin, propagation and interaction; matter under extreme conditions; supernovae and dark matter.The proceedings have been selected for coverage in: ? This volume provides a broad picture of the current understanding of electroweak and strong interactions, according to most recent experimental results from some of the world's largest particle accelerators: LEP II, Tevatron, HERA and SPS. Special attention is given to CP violation, the Higgs boson search, and precision tests of the electroweak thoery. Although generally oriented, the contributions are targeted at postgraduate students in particle physics.
