This report documents the geological setting of the mining camp and geologic features of the major mineral deposit types. New ideas about the tectonic setting and metallogenic history of the district are also presented. The area lies near the eastern margin of the Coast Mountains at the head of the Portland Canal, a fiord 115 kilometres long, which marks the southeastern boundary between the Alaska Panhandle and northwestern British Columbia.

The Jurassic Rossland Group in south-east British Columbia is a volcanic arc succession that contains a variety of deposits typical of volcanic arcs. This report focusses on deposits in the Group, particularly on those that have had recent exploration, and on the metallogeny of the Nelson-Rossland map area. The report first reviews the regional geology of the area and describes a number of type examples of mineral deposits in Rossland Group rocks & others in the area. These include carbonate-hosted deposits, volcanogenic massive sulphides, porphyry copper-gold deposits, skarns, and gold-quartz & polymetallic veins. The principal focus is on the deposits of the Rossland copper/gold mining camp, the second largest lode gold producing camp in the province. The regional geology around Rossland is summarized, the main deposit types are described, and a model for intrusive-related gold-sulphide veins is presented. Appendices include a table of mineral occurrences in the area, production data for the area's metallic deposits, a petrographic report, analyses of samples, reports on geochronological dating & isotope characterization, and fluid inclusion data.

Sandon is a small mining settlement in the Selkirk Mountains six miles east of Slocan Lake, British Columbia. It is centred in the most productive part of the Slocan Mining Division silver-lead-zinc camp. The introduction to this report reviews the mining history of the Sandon area and reviews production figures and previous geological work. Chapter 2 describes the general geology of the area and the lithology of its various rock types and chapter 3 covers structural geology, including drag folds, cleavage, and faults. Chapter 4 discusses aspects of economic geology: lode deposit types, controls on ore deposits, characteristics of ore bodies, ore mineralogy, and metal distribution. The final chapter, the bulk of the document, contains descriptions of mine properties, with emphasis on the lodes and their geological settings, but including information (where available) on mine workings and production. Includes index.
