This publication in Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics is led by two renown psychiatric physicians specializing in Disaster Psychiatry, Trauma, and International Psychiatry for children and adolescents: Dr. Paramjit Joshi and Dr. Lisa Cullins. Prevention and the concept of collective impact on population health is the focus of this issue led by Aradhana Bela Sood. Primary, secondary, and tertiary themes run throughout each article with evidence base explicitly stated. An Appendix presenting select programs for prevention concludes this issue. Topics include: Early childhood mental health: Neurobiological underpinnings of early brain development and Health promotion and prevention in non-psychiatric settings; Prevention in childhood; Mindfulness and alternative and complementary therapies; Prevention of violence; Bullying; Depression and suicide; HIV and AIDS; Substance use disorders; Obesity in children and youth; Delinquency and prevention; Public policy and system building. This collaborative ATLAS project is a systematic attempt to collect information from countries around the world on existing services and resources relating to child and adolescent mental health services. The primary purposes of this initial report are to stimulate additional data gathering and to encourage the development of policy, services and training. Issues discussed include: methods and limitations of the project, rights of the child and adolescent, policy and programmes, information systems, service system gaps and service integration, barriers to care, care providers, training and financing of care services, availability and use of medication.

Around the world, a vast number of children and adolescents suffer from mental and neurological disorders and only a small proportion of them receive adequate care. This is so in both developing and developed countries. The need to raise awareness about this problem and provide specific advice regarding their prevention and treatment was identified as a priority for the World Psychiatric Association by Professor Ahmed Okasha during his Presidency of the Association and resulted in the creation of his Presidential Programme on Child Mental Health. This book presents some of the fruits of this programme and constitutes a global call to action for mental health workers and policy makers. The Mental Health of Children and Adolescents: An area of global neglect brings together information on the burden of mental disorders in childhood and adolescence with methods of raising public awareness of these problems. The book also describes therapeutic and preventive interventions that could diminish them. It then presents the results of field studies in Brazil, Egypt and Russia documenting the effectiveness of interventions to prevent school dropout in those three very different countries. With its emphasis on practical guidance for the development of interventions to prevent or treat child and adolescent mental health, The Mental Health of Children and Adolescents: An area of global neglect provides much-needed information of direct interest to health professionals and the many others involved in the provision of health care to children and adolescents in both the developing and the developed countries.

This timely issue of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics, edited by Drs. Paul Weigle and Kristopher Kaliebe will focus on Internet Habits and Youth Mental Health. Topics discussed in the volume include, but are not limited to: Creation of a family media plan: how tech affects family dynamics and family therapy; Interplay between media habits and development from preschool through adolescence; Interplay between Autism and media habits; Interplay between Depression and media habits including online expression of suicidality and cutting; Interplay between Behaviorally disordered youth and media habits, including violent VG, cyberbullying; Eating disorders, obesity and online engagement; Internet Gaming Disorder (and tech addictions) Treatment; Sexting and online pornography engagement; Interplay between disadvantaged, gender non-conforming and minority youth and media habits; and Media sub-cultures and their intersection with mental illness.

This publication promotes school based mental health services as a means for increasing access to care and for early intervention. There are 3 levels of intervention in school-based mental health: 1. Universal promotion/prevention: Implementing whole-school approaches (including training teachers and administrators) to ensure and foster wellness. 2. Targeted prevention: Providing prevention services for youth at-risk of developing mental health problems. 3. Indicated services: Providing assessment and direct care for youth with identified mental health needs. The approach of this Issue presents current evidence-based practice in schools and review of schools as a vital part of systems of care for youth. In addition to psychiatrists, this issue addresses collaboration with families, educators, administrators, social workers, counselors and psychologists. The Editors leading this issue are from Vanderbilt University and University of Maryland. Both Vanderbilt and Maryland have well-established clinical programs that provide a full continuum of mental health services, including "indicated services" to serve youth with mental health diagnoses (i.e., severe psychiatric disorders). Psychiatrists are part of the treatment team, and work directly in the school or provide consultation (often via telehealth technologies). Given that family engagement is a major part of making therapies work effectively, partnering with families is a critical part of the treatment process.

This issue of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Clinics will take a deep dive into the Science of Well-Being and its integration into clinical child psychiatry. Guest edited by Drs. Matthew Biel, Jeffrey Bostic, and Dr. David Rettew, this issue will discuss a number of related topics that are important to practicing child psychiatrists.
