Every person is born with a deep longing for a father. Being Dad deals with the way fathers, and the subject of biblical fatherhood, are treated in modern culture. Dr. Keith brings his experience with family, students, great mentors, and friends to bear on a subject that is crying out for attention. Equally, he brings his Christian faith, a scholarly eye for detail, and an ear for story along on the journey and works with the reader to navigate a path to a better country where the Father blesses His children and is honored. Forgiven fathers are a gift from God, for they have the gospel to proclaim to their families. This approach leads to gracious fathers that can now display a shadow of the love of their Heavenly Father so that children may be drawn into saving faith.

The relationship between Old Testament high priest Phinehas, grandson of Aaron, and consecration to God the Father in the 21st century is explored. Consecration results in the Father's Seal, together with the covenants of peace, everlasting priesthood, and right to expiate acceptably for self and others in His sight. These gifts are analogous to what Yahweh had originally granted Phinehas during the Israelites' stay in the desert, after slaying the heresy of Pe'or, thus enabling the people to enter the promised land. The Seal of the Father supersedes the mark of the beast in the Book of Revelation, hence it can effectively end the heresy of the 21st century. Consecration to the Father in our times, is also one of the entryways into the New Israel.

A personal story of learning to trust our heavenly Father when you feel your earthly father has let you down. Blair Linne’s personal story of growing up without a father at home reflects the experiences of millions. She weaves her personal story with thoughtful theological reflection, inviting readers to learn from God what "father" really means and to trust him, even if they feel their earthly father has let them down. This book will help readers to shift their eyes from what they do not have in their earthly fathers (who, whether present or absent, loving or the opposite, can never be perfect) to what they do have in their eternal Father, who will never disappoint, reject or abandon them. Readers will see that the gospel promises not just forgiveness but also a place in God's family, experienced in a local church, where they can enjoy the fullness of his fatherly joy, care, wisdom, provision, protection and security. Also includes a chapter by Blair’s husband, the Christian hip-hop artist Shai, on his own story of fatherlessness and faith.

The Gift of a Father gives specific things that my father, Leonard James, Jr. did throughout my life that were truly gifts and blessings to me. He did these things by way of example, teaching and mentoring that have been real blessings over the entire seventy-five plus years of my existence. Key points in his teachings are: 1. The sovereignty of God emphasizes that everything that man uses in technology and commerce was created by God. We can do nothing apart from our Creator whether we acknowledge Him or not. 2. My father set forth God’s model for manhood by his example and teaching. He emphasized that God set forth the model or pattern in the first two chapters of Genesis. 3. He established that my identity must be set by Godly principles and not by the thinking and behavior of the people and culture around me. 4. He stressed the importance of having a vision for life and to avoid wandering aimlessly. 5. As I entered puberty he impressed upon me the importance of commitment in marriage and a relationship with a female. This means there is more that just sex involved. He set the example in that he was married to my mother for 59 years before his death. 6. Life is filled with traps and snares. He taught me to be careful when dealing with temptations and “bait”. 7. Racism was a major issue while I was growing up in Mississippi in the 1950s and 1960s. He and my mother emphasized that my success was possible and I had to assume responsibility for it. 8. He raised me and my sisters to look to God’s unconditional love and His Grace even though we made mistakes.
