An unforgettable reminder of the resilience of human compassion, even in the face of the worst horrors of our history. In the autumn of 1940, Anna Hirsch and her friends and family are rounded up by Nazis and deported to Gurs, a refugee camp in the south of France. Food is scarce, and the living conditions inhumane. Even worse is the ever-present fear that they will be relocated once again -- this time to one of the death camps. But when word comes that Anna and the other children are to be moved, their destination is not Auschwitz or Buchenwald, but Le Chambon-sur-Lignon: a tiny village whose citizens have agreed to care for deported Jewish children. Based on the true story of a French village that banded together to protect the Jews during WWII, this unforgettable tale honours the contagious goodness that permeated one corner of a region otherwise enveloped in evil, and celebrates the courage of all those who put their lives at risk to save others.

Deputy Mayor Daniel L. Doctoroff led New York's dramatic and unexpected economic resurgence after the September 11 terrorist attacks. With Mayor Michael Bloomberg, he developed a remarkably ambitious five-borough economic development plan to not only recover from the attacks but to completely transform New York's economy: New neighborhoods were created. Hundreds of thousands of jobs were generated. The largest municipal affordable housing plan in American history was completed. Ground Zero was rebuilt. And New York adopted a pathbreaking sustainability plan. None of this was straightforward. New York has some of the most entrenched financial and political interests anywhere, and it has a population that is quick to let its public officials know exactly what is on its mind. Doctoroff's plans for a New York Olympic Games and a stadium on the West Side crashed and burned, but phoenix-like he engineered the transformation of the city anyway. Greater than Ever is a bracing adventure--when can-do attitude dove headlong into New York's unique realpolitik of "fuggedaboutit"--during which the city was changed for the better.

An inspiring parable on the greatest leadership lesson of all—that the best leaders go beyond the tenets of the Golden Rule and help others to be better than they are themselves Too many people assume that the timeless principles of genuine leadership—of helping others achieve their full potential—don’t apply Monday through Friday during work hours or in any circumstance where a paycheck is involved. In Greater Than Yourself, Steve Farber proves them wrong. With this powerful and eye-opening story, Farber shows that the goal of true leadership is to help others—teammates, employees, and colleagues—become more capable, confident, and accomplished than their leaders. Through the actions of a forward-thinking and extraordinarily successful CEO, Farber reveals the three keys to achieving what he calls GTY: Expand Yourself, Give Yourself, and Replicate Yourself. Filled with thought-provoking ideas and actionable principles, Greater Than Yourself offers a powerful message for today’s business leaders.

Greater Than is another bold collection of poetry from James J. Adams. This is James’s first published collection of poetry in seven years. Though the author has not published and shared his material with the public in several years, this collection is the result of his time spent reflecting, observing, and being a good student of the world. The author labored over this collection, taking in the noise and confusion of the world. The encouraging message of the book is people striving for greatness must not be swayed, distracted, or get lost in the chaos. The author concludes that greatness isn’t necessarily any particular career, athletic, or monetary achievements. Rather, individual or group greatness is a matter of spiritual success and positive as well as lasting contributions to the lives of others.

Too many people assume the timeless principles of true leadership—of helping others achieve their full potential—don’t apply Monday through Friday during work hours or in any circumstance where a paycheck is involved. Like all good things, this book also has a purpose. Through these entrepreneurs, I intend to inspire a future generation of entrepreneurs. When those in this book tell you their life's journey, it gives you something that you can relate to. From their words, you will learn about the current market situation, future predictions, industrial analysis, technological innovations, ease of doing business, and so much more. I also designed this book to introduce you to some exceptional individuals who are disrupting conventional methods. Like I said in my previous book, gone are the days of a brick-and-mortar business. Now, I don't mean to say these age-old methods will not bring you any luck. But by not digitizing your business, you will miss out on so many opportunities. Everything you have learned till today is a thing of the past. Innovations that would have taken years before are now being fast-tracked to meet the needs of the ever-changing world. Sometimes entrepreneurs used to say that a particular product or service they introduced was too soon to be adopted by the people. Today's entrepreneurs will not say that. No matter what futuristic product you offer, there couldn't possibly be a better time to launch it.

During the half century preceding widespread school integration, black North Carolinians engaged in a dramatic struggle for equal educational opportunity as segregated schooling flourished. Drawing on archival records and oral histories, Sarah Thuesen gives voice to students, parents, teachers, school officials, and civic leaders to reconstruct this high-stakes drama. She explores how African Americans pressed for equality in curricula, higher education, teacher salaries, and school facilities; how white officials co-opted equalization as a means of forestalling integration; and, finally, how black activism for equality evolved into a fight for something "greater than equal--integrated schools that served as models of civic inclusion. These battles persisted into the Brown era, mobilized black communities, narrowed material disparities, fostered black school pride, and profoundly shaped the eventual movement for desegregation. Thuesen emphasizes that the remarkable achievements of this activism should not obscure the inherent limitations of a fight for equality in a segregated society. In fact, these unresolved struggles are emblematic of fault lines that developed across the South, and serve as an urgent reminder of the inextricable connections between educational equality, racial diversity, and the achievement of first-class citizenship.
