When Margaret L. Carter first read Dracula at the age of twelve, her spontaneous reaction was to wonder how the undead Count saw the events in which he was portrayed as the villain. She's always been fascinated with the "monster's" viewpoint and relationships between human and nonhuman beings. Most of the stories in this collection can be described as romances, and all involve love and passion in some form. Likewise, the promises also have the capability of overpowering a sinful nature and making us exactly into the people that are pleasing to God. God will never change His mind about these promises and they are available for everyone who chooses to believe Him, because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The author had a somewhat religious upbringing and came to know salvation as a teenager. But preoccupation with the concerns of life caused him to have a mediocre understanding of what salvation really meant. Being weighed down with getting an education and working for a living, it would be years before he realized this lifestyle was not God's way for him. Through several events, it became apparent God wanted to carry these "cares" and have a closer relationship with him. It was during this time, through the Holy Spirit, he was led to quit his job, write a book called Desires of the Heart and have it published by Tree of Life. There was no such publishing company but 3 years later when the book was finished, God showed him Xulon Press. The Greek word xulon means, tree as it refers to Tree of Life in the Bible.
