Helping Humanity: American Policy and Genocide Rescue explores American foreign policy reactions to genocide and state caused humanitarian crises. This book provides an examination of the nature of genocide and America's 19th century philanthropic efforts; it then offers case studies focused on the Cuban Insurrection, the Armenian Genocide, the Terror-Famine, World War II, and the Cambodian Genocide. It also includes a discussion of the difficulties encountered by would-be rescuers in the post-Cold War era. Pomakoy shows that the policies pursued by various presidents reflected a balance of policy considerations. Rarely did imperial or isolationist ambitions dominate American policy completely. Humanitarian concerns played an important, if rarely appreciated, role in foreign policy formulation, and represent a neglected dynamic in American history. Numerous rescue efforts developed as ordinary Americans joined with missionaries and diplomats to raise and distribute humanitarian aid. This peculiar blending of private and public resources grew apace with American wealth and power in the 19th and 20th centuries, and provided succor to those who could be reached. In Armenia this aid saved hundreds of thousands of lives. During World War II a similar campaign saved some of Hitler's victims from death. Sometimes American rescue efforts succeeded only because the use of force removed the underlying causes of the humanitarian crisis, as in Cuba in 1898, where an aid campaign did not succeed until America's military might ended the fighting on the island. Other American presidents ignored, or downplayed, humanitarian crises, especially when the realities of geography and power politics prevented effective rescue. America has been roundly criticized for the absence of a genocide rescue policy. Helping Humanity revisits this discussion, arguing that American foreign policy reactions to genocide encompassed more activity than is usually recognized. This volume expands the field of consumer behavior in marketing in order to understand the “real world”, of underserved and underexplored populations, modern-day social issues, and power and agency. Connecting with others is a fundamental human requirement to survive and thrive psychologically, spiritually, and physically, for both individuals and society. Rather than focusing on normative marketing concepts, this book encourages readers to explore new substantive domains, and analyze them from a holistic perspective. It is organized into four sections, namely “marketing to consumers as…” (1) “mindful, happy and social”, (2) “intersectional, diverse, and inclusive”, (3) “information seekers”, and (4) “social change agents”. Consisting of fifteen chapters written by leading scholars in marketing, specific topics considered here include mindfulness, happiness, loneliness, sex and gender in advertising, privacy, skin lightening, information overload, health and technology, mitigating extremism, charitable behavior, and corporate social responsibility, among others.

Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad are the primary windows through which the children of Abraham see God, learn, and reflect. This is the theme of this book, with emphasis on Islam and Christianity, the world's two largest religions who claim more than half of the world population as followers. This book highlights the articles of faith and practices in both religions. It also explores points of agreement and disagreement on the concept of God, the nature of Jesus and Muhammad, as well as, the concept of salvation. With more than four billion people calling themselves Christians and Muslims today, the readers are encouraged to explore and contribute on how to reach better understanding and dialogue between these two great religions which, in the author's opinion, is needed for world peace.

'I want to connect what concerns people today with what it was about Jesus that fascinated Luke, as a man of his lifetime... I want every reader to be guided by Luke to Jesus, to gain new insights into Jesus, and to discover in him the one who gives meaning to our existence, heals our wounds and leads us to true life.' In Jesus: The Image of Humanity, best-selling author Anslem Grün writes an introduction to the Gospel of Luke that will inspire those who find it difficult to encounter the real Jesus in the writings of the New Testament. He shows the Jesus of Luke's Gospel to be the key to a spiritually fruitful life, something many biblical exegetes fail to do. He pierces through alienating and inherited impressions of the text to show that what Luke is giving us is a record of his own experience of Jesus. He sees the Gospel as an expertly composed, entertaining, and valuable piece of publicity on behalf of the Jesus movement; and its message is as life changing in the twenty-first century as it was in the first century.

'The book that changed my life... a constant companion' Bill Bailey 'Extraordinary and beautiful...the most exciting and ambitious work of non-fiction I have read in more than a decade' The Daily Telegraph This extraordinarily wide-ranging study looks at the dilemmas of life today and shows how they need not have arisen. Portraits of living people and historical figures are placed alongside each other as Zeldin discusses how men and women have lost and regained hope; how they have learnt to have interesting conversations; how some have acquired an immunity to loneliness; how new forms of love and desire have been invented; how respect has become more valued than power; how the art of escaping from one's troubles has developed; why even the privileged are often gloomy; and why parents and children are changing their minds about what they want from each other.
