Challenging modern preachers to expound the Bible like Peter and Paul, Him We Proclaim makes the hermeneutical and historical case for a return to apostolic preaching--preaching that is Christ-centered, redemptive-historical, missiologically communicated, and grounded in grace. But moving beyond theory, Him We Proclaim provides examples of how this method applies to all Old and New Testament genres--history; law; psalm; prophecy; doctrine and exhortation.

Throughout history, Christians have found the summary of their faith in the three ancient creeds. The God We Proclaim explores that faith as it is found in the shortest of them: the Apostles’ Creed. The contributors are among Britain’s foremost Christian communicators and teachers. Written with an infectious enthusiasm for theology, The God We Proclaim is ideal for anyone seeking to understand the Christian faith, either individually, or in a church or student study group. It is based on a set of sermons delivered in the chapel of Jesus College, Cambridge, which surveyed the foundations of Christianity. Dorothy L. Sayers (1893–1957) wrote in her essay “The Dogma is the Drama” that people assume that if churches are empty it is because preachers “insist too much upon doctrine,” or “dull dogma” as they disapprovingly call it. Sayers knew that the opposite is true. “It is the neglect of dogma that makes for dullness. The Christian faith is the most exciting drama that ever staggered the imagination of man—and the dogma is the drama.”

Arguing for the need both to preach Christ in every sermon and to preach regularly from the Old Testament, Sidney Greidanus develops a christocentric method that will help preachers do both simultaneously. Greidanus challenges Old Testament scholars to broaden their focus and to understand the Old Testament not only in its own historical context but also in the context of the New Testament. Suggesting specific steps and providing concrete examples, this volume provides a practical guide for preaching Christ from the Old Testament.

Catechesis is a unique form of teaching that intends not merely to pass along facts but to hand on the faith received from Christ, the apostles, and the living magesterium of the Church. The Mystery We Proclaim, Second Edition, is an invitation to all involved in this God-ordained work to reflect and examine the importance of their ministry in light of the revealed mystery of faith we all profess. Reflecting both the spirit and the content of the Catechism of the Catholic Church as well as the vision of the General Directory for Catechesis, The Mystery We Proclaim, Second Edition, uses the riches of these resources to guide catechists into the third millennium with greater clarity, confidence, and effectiveness. Today is, as Monsignor Kelly points out, a promising and exciting time in which the 'new evangelization' offers many rich possibilities for catechesis. Divided into five parts that analyze and evaluate the catechetical movement of the past as well as providing direction for the future, The Mystery We Proclaim, Second Edition, helps consolidate and highlight themes of both the Catechism and the General Directory. Its five major sections are as follows: Catechesis in the New Context, The Heritage and Challenge of Catechesis, The Goals of Catechesis, The Content of Catechesis, and A Methodology for Catechesis. Everyone from pastors to DREs, to religion teachers, catechists, and principals--in fact, anyone involved in religious education--will find The Mystery We Proclaim, Second Edition, an encouragement to continued vigor and renewed enthusiasm for transmitting the living faith from one generation to the next.

I remember when Doctor Willie Traylor and his wife, Peggy, came to Greater New Start Church in 2005. They arrived from a church across town, Houston, called Christian Tabernacle, pastored by Dr. Richard Heard. Dr. Traylor relayed to me that Jesus sent them to us. They said that the LORD said He was expanding the borders of their tent. I can defi nitely attest to the fact that the LORD has expanded their tent?s borders as well as Greater New Start?s borders. One thing that JESUS put on Dr. Traylor?s heart to do was edit our faith confession. Since we have joined in agreement in editing our confession, which we confess out loud each service, we all have and are still witnessing the manifestation of what we have been confessing in JESUS?S Name. This week we are moving into close to a half-million-dollar church property. Therefore, I feel this is a good place to share our faith confession with the rest of the world: Father, we thank you that we are givers of ourselves, time, and money. Because we are givers, YOU give and cause men to give to us?good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over. We are sowing our seed into good ground; therefore we believe YOU are helping us prosper SPIRITUALLY, PHYSICALLY, and FINANCIALLY. We thank you, FATHER, that you increase our anointing more and more (me, my family, and my church). Abundance in every area is your will for us, and we choose not to settle for less. WE DECLARE that we are bearing a hundredfold fruit, and others are seeing the manifestation of our faith. We are wealthy in every KINGDOM AREA, in JESUS? Name, amen. Just as the LORD has used Dr. Traylor and his wife at Greater New Start, I am sure He is also using him in this great anointed writing. I know that each one who receives this Great Man of God will truly be blessed. Bishop Joseph R. Handy Founder, Greater New Start Church Houston, Texas

Have you ever questioned the importance of evangelism? Have you wondered about your responsibility in evangelism? Is it for me or just for the ministers? Is evangelism important? Is it something that I must do? Do I know its importance, but don't feel called or equipped? Do I know the message of the Gospel? Do I know the Person of the Gospel? Have I dodged the issue and dodged my responsibility? These and other questions are the subject of this book. Him We Proclaim provides the foundation for the gospel message. It provides tools and resources necessary to prepare each one of us for evangelism. This book will help us learn the roles and responsibilities of being a disciple of Jesus Christ, His ambassador, His witness, and His shepherd. It will prepare us for the issues and questions which people raise and discover how to answer according to God's Holy Word. Further, Him We Proclaim presents a plan for ecumenical evangelism, called SEEK, (Salvation through Ecumenical Evangelism for the Kingdom of God), uniting Christians in a ministry to preach the gospel and spread the Kingdom. William H. Wetmore holds graduate degrees from both Duke University and Lehigh University, leading to a successful career in engineering science. He was a Division Director at the National Science Foundation before becoming Associate Dean of Engineering at West Virginia University. He has been the speaker at many Christian conferences and is the President of SEEK Ministries, sponsoring ecumenical evangelism with a group of approximately 20 churches in Moore County, North Carolina. He is the author of two other books, GOD'S HIDDEN TREASURES (THE PARABLES OF JESUS) and YOU MUST BE BORN AGAIN. He and his wife, Nancy, live in North Carolina and are active in many Christian ministries.
