Do you live life that others may make much of you, or that they might make much of another? Do you point endlessly to you, or do you in every way point to Jesus Christ? John the Baptist understood that he must diminish as Jesus came onto the scene, simply for this reason: it was all about him - it was all about Jesus. Just as a friend of the bridegroom wouldn't become jealous or enraged when the bridegroom's time had come, and all attention was now paid to the bridegroom instead, so John understood that he must not become jealous of the ministry of the Christ. Imagine if a friend of a bridegroom at a wedding would, in the middle of the ceremony, stand up and make a scene to draw attention because no one was looking at him. How could they all be looking at the bridegroom on this day, and not at him? His would be a misplaced estimation of who the day is all about. God created everything for himself, yet we live our lives much like we are no friend of the bridegroom, as if we are no lovers of the living God. We strive endlessly over possessions, and we don't possess him, nor do we care to. We care more that we have been dishonored than that we have dishonored him, and horrifically so. We care more that others might recognize our gifts and talents than we are concerned that we use them for the purposes for which he gave them to us. We live lives out of fear rather than out of confidence in him, and in this we betray the name. Again, we look only inward. We still live and talk as though it is all about us. We still have desires that are all about us. The flesh is not yet sanctified and is not fully given over to him. This is a herald's call to become less so that he might become more in us, through us, and in the world. This is a call for many to become true friends of the bridegroom. This is a call to become willing to be forgotten, so that he might be remembered forever. This is a call to find my joy completed only when and once it is completed in him.

In the midst of my quiet time with the Lord, I often thought of how I could be a beckon of light to help others that are depressed, lost, have no hope, searching for an answer, needing deliverance, or just downright in need of a renewing of your mind and a fresh new start. While meditating, I would get either titles to dwell on or even what needed to be said to a multitude of people. Many people may never step a foot inside of a church to receive a Living Word that can change any situation by faith at the drop of a dime. But understand, beloved, God put people in places to be an example of His goodness. Demonstration can happen when you mix faith with the Word of God. When mixed together, it takes on a nature of its own (manifestation). Not just the talk but the walk. God is the author and finisher of our faith. This book is a great tool for a time such as this for a divine appointment, open invitation, to renew your relationship with Christ. So open your ears to hear what the Spirit of God is saying. There’s truly a difference between hearing and listening. People, places, and things may change, but the Word of God will stand forever (Hebrews 13:8).

This is an integrative approach to living in wellness of recovery. I vacated my own mind through deep personal process, my own form of meditation, and this book came about. My hope is this book unlocks the potential that advances new insight into the recovery process for each individual by reframing the process in such a way that the right interpretation by the reader will help recovery click into place. What we need to celebrate in recovery is the self-discovery of the individual. I offer my carefully considered overviews and assessments on the best-known treatments (theories) connected to recovery. I have provided a new outlook as a guide for the unwary who had failed at recovery in the past and those just coming into recovery for the first time. FOREWORD BY BRENE BROWN and POSTSCRIPT FROM BRAIN PICKINGS CREATOR MARIA POPOVA Rock star, crowdfunding pioneer, and TED speaker Amanda Palmer knows all about asking. Performing as a living statue in a wedding dress, she wordlessly asked thousands of passersby for their dollars. When she became a singer, songwriter, and musician, she was not afraid to ask her audience to support her as she surfed the crowd (and slept on their couches while touring). And when she left her record label to strike out on her own, she asked her fans to support her in making an album, leading to the world's most successful music Kickstarter. Even while Amanda is both celebrated and attacked for her fearlessness in asking for help, she finds that there are important things she cannot ask for-as a musician, as a friend, and as a wife. She learns that she isn't alone in this, that so many people are afraid to ask for help, and it paralyzes their lives and relationships. In this groundbreaking book, she explores these barriers in her own life and in the lives of those around her, and discovers the emotional, philosophical, and practical aspects of THE ART OF ASKING. Part manifesto, part revelation, this is the story of an artist struggling with the new rules of exchange in the twenty-first century, both on and off the Internet. THE ART OF ASKING will inspire readers to rethink their own ideas about asking, giving, art, and love.
