Soccer... baseball... dance... basketball... lacrosse... gymnastics... swimming... running... Our children are involved in these and many other sports or sports-related activities, whether informally or on teams. We wondered: What might Jewish ethical teachings have to say about how to be a mensch - a person of integrity - in the world of sports? Out of a frustrating search for quality children's books on the subject, this book was born. The Big Question we shared with our students: What is a mensch, and how can I be one? We discussed a variety of "mensch values" drawn from traditional Jewish sources, and the children then wrote sports-related stories-fiction, non-fiction, and sometimes a blend of both! Our hope is that other children (and adults) will find these stories both inspirational and entertaining.

A reasoned yet urgent call to embrace and protect the essential, practical human quality that has been drummed out of our lives: wisdom. It's in our nature to want to succeed. It's also human nature to want to do right. But we've lost how to balance the two. How do we get it back? Practical Wisdom can help. "Practical wisdom" is the essential human quality that combines the fruits of our individual experiences with our empathy and intellect-an aim that Aristotle identified millennia ago. It's learning "the right way to do the right thing in a particular circumstance, with a particular person, at a particular time." But we have forgotten how to do this. In Practical Wisdom, Barry Schwartz and Kenneth Sharpe illuminate how to get back in touch with our wisdom: how to identify it, cultivate it, and enact it, and how to make ourselves healthier, wealthier, and wiser.

The Committee reported previously on domestic football governance in July 2011 (7th report of session 2010-12, HC 792-I, ISBN 9780215561114) after concerns were expressed by supporters and commentators about the sufficiency of checks and balances on financial management in football, as well as wider failures of governance. The report concluded that the Football Association - English football's governing body - was in need of urgent reform. The Committee said the leagues - especially the Premier League - had too great an influence over the decision-making processes of the Football Association. In particular the Committee was concerned that increasing commercialisation of the game, coupled with a lack of financial regulation, was leading to significant financial risk-taking among football clubs that threatens the game. The Committee has been very disappointed by the football authorities' response to its proposals for reform. While progress has been achieved, further reform is needed, especially in relation to the licensing model, the failure to ensure that membership of the Main Board, Council and influential committees is fully representative and balances interests adequately, and the way in which supporter engagement will operate at club level. Most fundamentally, the financial proposals were hugely disappointing, with the only really positive development being the eventual introduction of Financial Fair Play rules despite the football authorities' initial reluctance. The Committee issues an ultimatum to the game of English football: make the necessary reforms within 12 months or face possible legislation.

An action thriller where the line between the good guys and the bad can be hard to see. It's 2005 and Jed Walker has just joined the CIA. As a ten-year veteran of Air Force Special Operations, Walker is used to being at the pointy end of things. But normally the front line is much further from home. Sent to New Orleans on the trail of Russians wanting to claim back what was stolen from them in Afghanistan, it doesn't take long for Walker to realise that in the murky world of espionage, the rules of war do not apply. Teaming up with a feisty M16 operative, to do what is right for the nation Walker must take steps that will betray The Agency. As Hurricane Katrina hits, to forever change a city, it's clear to Walker that that this is a high-stakes game where the winner takes all, and he must succeed.
