I was driving to look at a new property a client called me to list in north Louisiana. I was thinking that this 38-acre listing was right in the sweet spot for the size tracts that many people want for rural home sites in our region. I haven't, however, thought of myself as an expert land investor. Yes, I've been involved in the purchase and sale of thousands of acres - and all made money! - but that's just me doing what I do. An expert? No. Something to teach? Maybe.So, here it is. My steps, thoughts, and actions on how I managed to buy and sell 12 different small tracts in about 18 months...all at a profit. There were two large deals - one over 1000 acres and another at almost 5000 acres - that I was also involved in at the same time. Those deals are different than the 12 I'll use for discussion here. Those deals require a different level of funding and knowledge that may be more than you want to tackle. It is clear even to casual observation that economies evolve from year to year and over centuries. Yet mainstream economic theory assumes that economies always move towards equilibrium. One consequence of this is that mainstream theory is unable to deal with economic history. The Evolution of Economies provides a clear account of how economies evolve under a process of support-bargaining and money-bargaining. Both support-bargaining and money-bargaining are situation-related - people determine their interests and actions by reference to their present circumstances. This gives the bargaining system a natural evolutionary dynamic. Societies evolve from situation to situation. Historical change follows this evolutionary course. This volume looks at how accumulation in postcolonial capitalism blurs the boundaries of space, institutions, forms, financial regimes, labour processes, and economic segments on one hand, and creates zones and corridors on the other. It draws our attention to the peculiar but structurally necessary coexistence of both primitive and virtual modes of accumulation in the postcolony. From these two major inquiries it develops a new understanding of postcolonial capitalism. The case studies in this volume discuss the production of urban spaces of capital extraction, institutionalization of postcolonial finance capital, gendering of work forms, establishment of new forms of labour, formation of and changes in caste and racial identities and networks, and securitization—and thereby confirm that no study of contemporary capitalism is complete without thoroughly addressing the postcolonial condition.
