A compelling and readable narrative history, How Long? How Long? presents both a rethinking of social movement theory and a controversial thesis: that chroniclers have egregiously neglected the most important leaders of the Civil Rights movement, African-American women, in favor of higher-profile African-American men and white women. Author Belinda Robnett argues that the diversity of experiences of the African-American women organizers has been underemphasized in favor of monolithic treatments of their femaleness and blackness. Drawing heavily on interviews with actual participants in the American Civil Rights movement, this work retells the movement as seen through the eyes and spoken through the voices of African-American women participants. It is the first book to provide an analysis of race, class, gender, and culture as substructures that shaped the organization and outcome of the movement. Robnett examines the differences among women participants in the movement and offers the first cohesive analysis of the gendered relations and interactions among its black activists, thus demonstrating that femaleness and blackness cannot be viewed as sufficient signifiers for movement experience and individual identity. Finally, this book makes a significant contribution to social movement theory by providing a crucial understanding of the continuity and complexity of social movements, clarifying the need for different layers of leadership that come to satisfy different movement needs. An engaging narrative history as well as a major contribution to social movement and feminist theory, How Long? How Long? will appeal to students and scholars of social activism, women's studies, American history, and African-American studies, and to general readers interested in the perennially fascinating story of the American Civil Rights movement.

This book has four poems. I write my poem for special and feeling in the moments of my life experience. There are four plays that focused on the culture of twenty-first-century life. The first is called "Trolley to the Border." The path that some life takes and intercept the set at San Diego America Plaza trolley station. I try to honor Henrik Ibsen, the artist style, to focus on the social norm. The second play highlight the life, success, and struggles of Arthur Ashe. It's called "World Citizen: King of the Court." In this play, I try to honor the amazing style of Emily Mann and her ability to use documentary and make creative and entertaining theater. The third play is called "Crime Unpunished." It focused on four friends' journeys with sexual abuse, suicide, healing, and building a healthy relationship. In this play, I tried to honor Lloyd Richards and his ability to take on very challenging works. The four play is called Remember...If It Happened? This a journey of a modern-day person on how he finds the history of his name and that he is part Native American. That opens up a spiritual connection that leads to seeing the world differently. In this, I try to honor the fun imagination of William Shakespeare.

"Like other evangelical kids, Jesse James DeConto felt called to shine the light of truth into the world. His job as a journalist and his young marriage, though, would radically change him. First, he learned that Christians have no corner on truth: Working out in the world, trying to be the ""Roaring Lamb"" he'd been trained to be, he met atheists and agnostics who seemed to do better at embodying Christian love than many Christians did. Confessing the church's failures was one thing, but the author had to face his own weakness the hard way, when the cheap threads that held his marriage intact finally snapped. Jesse found himself at the end of his twenties with a broken bank account, a broken body, and a broken family. In the midst of that pain, he discovered his brokenness better equipped him to share God's grace than his striving ever had. He learned to say with theologian Karl Barth that ""his importance may consist in his poverty, in his hopes and fears, in his waiting and hurrying, in the direction of his whole being toward what lies beyond his horizon and beyond his power."" Love burns like a blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Love never fails, and that is who we are as flames in motion. We are God's love in motion. Even though waters may come and try to quench our love and God's light in us, know God's promise that "rivers cannot wash it away" (Song of Songs 8:7). Denise Stewart, in Flame in Motion, shares her own heartfelt story of challenges, perseverance, and clinging to God's love and the light of His saving grace through His Son, Jesus Christ. Denise openly expresses her love for God and encourages the reader to know that God's love is everlasting. God is faithful. Abiding in His love is living, breathing, and resting in love we can count on because His love for us is enduring love. God's love is not human love, even as we are reflections of His love to one another. We, despite our imperfections, are the hope of glory called to shine the light of Jesus Christ to the world. We achieve this through intimacy with our heavenly Father. Now is the time. God wants us. He loves us. Even as waters rise, no matter what is going on in our lives, they cannot quench His love because God's love never fails.
