The International Conference on Strategic and Global Studies is organized by the School of Strategic and Global Studies (SSGS), Universitas Indonesia. The ICSGS conference is an annual meeting event involving lecturers, students and researchers who are concerned with contemporary national and international issues that are directly related to the problems faced by the government and the private sector using a multidisciplinary approach. Participants of this conference came from the ASEAN region and the global network of the Universitas Indonesia.

Hazardous waste poses one of the most complex and risky pollution challenges worldwide. As industrialization accelerates globally, volumes of toxic byproducts and emissions continue to grow, requiring urgent solutions. This book provides a practical overview of hazardous waste management approaches, technologies, and policies to reduce environmental and human health damage. The text begins by outlining Pakistan's current hazardous waste situation, including crucial pollution sources like the textile, fertilizer, and leather industries. It summarizes reduction efforts and persisting challenges around enforcement, technology capabilities, and lack of recycling infrastructure. The following chapters delve into biological waste management techniques and an innovative fertilizer production process utilizing steel slag waste. Case studies demonstrate the potential to convert industrial byproducts into economic resources. Several chapters focus on electronic waste (e-waste), examining landfill contamination risks in Africa and the push to transform these sites into urban mining operations. Technical contributions analyze tools like activated carbon filters to reduce toxic e-waste emissions. The book concludes with a look at winery waste recycling and closes with a chapter connecting hazardous waste management to broader sustainable development goals. Together, the chapters in this volume provide a multifaceted look at hazardous waste management strategies, current limitations, and the work still required to reduce ecological damage. This book presents new research on gender-based violence in Southeast Asia, bringing together varied scholarly work in law, policy, and practice. It enables a greater understanding of violence against women as an international concern, highlighting particular issues that arise in the region. Against a background of international obligations to ensure women's rights through laws and policies that are geared at ending violence against women and girls, this research documents the state failures, individual shame and fear, and societal culture that collectively affects the reporting, investigation, prosecution of perpetrators, and protection of victims. The research explores differing legal mechanisms both internationally, and within nation states, relating to cases of physical and sexual violence. It recognizes the need for functioning mechanisms to ensure women can report their cases safely and be provided with protective and therapeutic services in a way that is systematic, effective, and measurable. Laws and court decisions are analyzed, crisis and safety centers are examined, and in-depth interviews are conducted with actors and NGOs with relevant roles and functions in the mechanism of cases of violence against women. The result is a comprehensive assessment of the incalculable harm it does within Southeast Asian society, and the obstacles it presents for law enforcement. The chapters uncover mechanisms with unique characteristics across Southeast Asia, providing a nuanced understanding of the cultural and social backgrounds, as well as the religious structures, that can both help and hinder suitable frameworks. The Working Group II contribution to the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) provides a comprehensive assessment of the scientific literature relevant to climate change impacts, adaptation and vulnerability. The report recognizes the interactions of climate, ecosystems and biodiversity, and human societies, and integrates across the natural, ecological, social and economic sciences. It emphasizes how efforts in adaptation and in reducing greenhouse gas emissions can come together in a process called climate resilient development, which enables a liveable future for biodiversity and humankind. The IPCC is the leading body for assessing climate change science. IPCC reports are produced in comprehensive, objective and transparent ways, ensuring they reflect the full range of views in the scientific literature. Novel elements include focused topical assessments, and an atlas presenting observed climate change impacts and future risks from global to regional scales. This book highlights the recent research works on sustainable construction, people behavior and built environment which were presented virtually during the 2021 AUA and ICSGS Academic Conference, Global Strategies for a Resilient and Sustainable Post Pandemic World Towards a Better Future for All which was conducted on 26-27 October 2021.

As the population is growing and urbanization is progressing, higher numbers of people are exposed to disaster risks, especially in the developing countries. Climate change is further worsening the impacts of existing risks and introducing new ones. It is imperative that countries need to invest more in disaster risk reduction (DRR) as well as climate change adaptation (CCA) not only to minimize their impacts but also to build resilience. To date, various international arenas have recommended increasing investment in DRR. The Sendai Framework for DRR, adopted by the UN member states in 2015 during the Third UN World Conference on DRR, emphasizes investment as a priority for decreasing disaster risks and losses. The Yangon Declaration set the goal of doubling investment to address water-related disasters. However, most countries are not able to proactively invest enough in DRR. Understanding the current scale and estimate of investment and its effects is crucial for promoting DRR investment, but such information and estimates are rarely available. This book examines the current investment trends and issues in DRR and CCA. Based on specific case studies, field data and evidence, the book identifies challenges in increasing investment and recommends various investment policies and innovative approaches to sustainable progress towards a resilient future.
